Those mods alone allow for more immersion, better performance and more realism. Torpedo failures, wolfpacks, you name it. The only those mods
don't do is make the war go into 1944-45, which Open Horizons II already does. So if I were you, I would try it. You might only be able to use type VIIs, but at least the story (what is
written story doing in a sim? I'll make my own story...) can be ignored. It's well worth it. Thanks to TDW, Trevally, and dozens of others, the good of SHV far outweighs the bad.
