Default Too long on leave

Well, I setup my approach all over again and fired off three more fish just as planned. Except all three kept traveling straight dead ahead. They're not supposed to do that. The whole idea of a firing solutions is for the tordedos to have the intelligences to make the course change and intercept the target.

With my mouth open a chill of embarrassment came over me as I realized I forgot to input the target speed into the TDC. I've been away on shore leave way to long.

With auto TDC you can not make this mistake because you are required to identify the target. At least I think that is the case. It's been awhile since I used auto. Here lies one advantage to manual targeting not often mentioned. You do not have to ID a target. If you want to shoot at buoys you can. Making a proper ID is crucial in auto targeting. It is a step that can be eliminated or put off to later when manual imputing.

The advantage is it saves time. Think of a convoy rolling by. Identification can get you a known speed but most of us prefer to calculated the actual speed by charting the targets course of travel.

From my mistake you should learn that it is possible to shoot straight shots when you want to. Here is an example. Shooting at ships docked in harbor can be done with long shots right under the destroyers nose. Set the target speed to zero and fire the fish at low speed from far away. Just watch yourself in thin water.
