I can see that you have an excellent sense of humor! Welcome aboard, Herr Kaleun!

You CAN be in first hand charge in SH5 too, but it will require some modding. And, for the record, as much as I love wandering around the sub and having a real live crew aboard, I'm an immersion freak, I too have my issues here and there, such as getting from the bridge to the control room. "Climb down first ladder until downward movement ceases, raise point of view, back off, lower point of view again, press forward to go down second ladder."

I'm not saying I could have done any better myself with the coding, I know that I couldn't have, but that has made me a big fan of "teleporting" (another mod) when I'm going down below, even though I insist on walking manually in all other situations.

Anyway, the modding bit is a bit daunting but, seeing as how you're a fellow SHIII "vet", I'm sure you're familiar with that. I can't do justice to all of the mods in anything less than 50 pages and I don't much like to be the cause of further headaches on your end, so a good place to start is this thread.

On the other hand, if you just want to jump into an "all-in-one supermod", from what I understand this one is the one to try out. It is, from what I've learned, quite stable, well put together, but it will require quite a bit of perusing "readme" files to find out what all of the mods included in it do. Then again, that's true no matter what mods you pick.

Finally, again because you're like me and an SHIII vet, I personally recommend as an absolute "must have", TDW's NewUIs. It does everything but make your coffee in the morning, but the main thing to an SHIII vet, at least that's my opinion, it allows you to change the user interface to whichever model you're used to. The "downside" is that it covers almost everything, so to tailor it exactly to your needs requires a bit of work. On the other hand, the settings that it defaults to when enabled has all of the functionality and buttons from SHIII while including the new features of SH5. You can always fine tune it later. That one is, by the way, part of pedrobas' awesome supermod linked to above.

Speaking of which, with that supermod you get the added advantage of pedrobas spending God knows how many hours tweaking about four dozen different mods to the point where they all play well together. I am in complete awe of that, knowing a thing or two about how long it took me to make my manually stitched together mod soup to work properly. In awe of that as well as the thousands of hours of work that all of the modders put into the individual mods making up the whole package. His mod is next on my list, that's for sure

But, regardless, these are just my opinions. As I'm sure you already know, if you need any additional help and advice, you have the friendliest, most helpful community at your fingertips and I am proud to be a part, however insignificant, of it.
