To get your crew inside - I am guessing you are getting the message "can't dive, crew onboard" or something like that.
This means you. So you have to go inside the boat before diving and the crew will follow (it you have mighty fine crew).

...sorry commander M this does not seem to affect the mouse but thanks any way
EDIT: have just been to my game and now i can not walk around in the Pen. i can look around but walking is not possible, so i can not even go to my BOAT!!!
