This happens because the so called "strongest" chess program gets bragging rights as the one to purchase. But in truth, they are all so strong 99% of chess players cannot make any use of all that strength. When they finally calculate every possible variation from every possible position will they have "solved" chess so that like tic-tac-toe there can be no winner? Is this what they strive for?
It kills the players using imagination and makes stronger the player with the ability or desire to simply memorize. Thus, it does something almost unimaginable----it makes chess predictable. Predictable = boring. Chess was never boring before the computers changed how the masters played.
Cheating is so rampant in playing chess online that the only "honest" game is speed chess which I detest. (because I'm terrible at it)
