You're right about his thinking outside the box, but he did have serious problems with torpedos on the last patrol. The idea that all the torpedo problems occured in the earlier part of the war (and they were fixed by a certain date) is a big oversimplification. Many issues were encountered with the electric models, for example.

Hmmm...... didn't know this.
When I briefly played SH3, I found out ramming a ship was like playing bumper cars; you bounce off and hear a lot of terrible screeching, but nobody sustains any damage. Did not care for that model.
