I dont think German uboats used pings to get range to target.
I use the four bearing method, or stadimeter if target is in visual range.

Edit - After watching your vid, I see you used estimated range from sonar guy in your vid. How accurate is his estimate???
Guess this is possible if its not to accurate, as with experiance he could guess the range by how loud the sound was.
