Yup! When I was a kid I would gather balloons, a coke bottle, aluminum foil, and lye crystals to make hydrogen balloons. The lye was available at the supermarket in the laundry soap aisle. You just made a solution of lye and water in the coke bottle. Rolled up some foil like a cinnamon stick and dropped it in the bottle, then put a balloon over the bottle. The foil would disolve giving off hydrogen which would fill the balloon. Pull the balloon off and tie it, add a fuse, light it and let it go at night. It would float off and explode in a fireball a couple hundred yards off.
Don't try this! It may explode in your hand. I still have all my parts though.
