I guess in that way I am still a noob... never had the pleasure of running into the beach... maybe it was the ex-captain in me... but I noticed early on if you didn't zoom in close to the chart it was inaccurate from a wide view.

I usually do long course tracks in open water and then zoom in close for nav in and amongst coastal areas.
