If you don't have it already I'd suggest getting GWX (a freeware add-on) & SH3 Commander (also free). GWX fixes many of the worst issues in SH3 & adds new many campaign items (ie. the Indian Ocean, Black Sea). It's almost a complete re-write of the stock game.
