Sub towed arrays and usage

im fairly new to DW, and i am amazed at how addicting this sim is. I have the LWAMI mod installed and im trying to figure out a few things...

1. How can i tell if the LWAMI mod is installed and working in the sim?

2. Do the Seawolf and the LA class have 1, or 2 towed arrays in the sim with LWAMI installed and which one is on either port or starboard side?

3. Which of the towed arrays on the LA class(my fave sub) is the "best" to use?

I appreciate any help that could be given here, i have a pretty good library of contemporary naval books (norman polmars Guide to the US fleet and also his guide to the soviet navy(which i almost have memorised):D I also have the Clancy book "Submarine" but find it a bit lame. He should have stopped writing books at Red Storm Rising, but thats my opinion:p

I have also downloaded all the tutorials and guides i can find, the Landlubbers guide being the one that has been the most help, but once again, any help or comments would be greatly appreciated

LWAMI is installed if you have installed it. If you overwrote the original files, they are used.

Which array is which is written in LWAMI readme.

The higher number array has better range and worse washout speed (AFAIK). It is the array which is used by default (without clicking array switch).

TB23 is the port array TB29 is the starboard array so im told (dont take it as gospel though) the TB29 is said to be more sensative.

To find a submarine you first need towed array deployed and looking on the narrowband sonar, there will be 2 contacts one is fake (ambiguous) the second is real, to find which is real mark both on the narrowband then execute a 45 degree turn either way doesnt matter.

If one of the contacts moves then its fake the other contact should then go to MASTER or M01 (depends on contact numbers)

Thats the basic anyway, then you can classify and work out how fast its going from the demon display.

I recomend visiting www.subguru.com on the downloads page and have a look at the manuals that have been written, if you need anyhelp then PM me (note i mainly do russian submarines only! and also under the ice Arctic ocean)

Also a note the LA 688i is the noisest submarine in the game even my submarine the Akula has alot better sound masking then the 688i, and ive found that to my advantage in many scenario's.

Reference this topic and look for my information.

Here is the information on the towed array deployment from LWAMI's read-me.

688(i) Towed Arrays- Added TB-23 as starboard array. The reason I have kept it
on the starboard, against what is commonly reported, is because in missions
where ownship starts with TA deployed, it is always the starboard array, and I
figured in most situations I would want that one deployed. The port TB-16
washes out at ~20kts and the TB-23 washes out at around ~16kts (you folks
can tell me if that feels right once you play around with it...
or if I'm just completely off...). I have set the sensitivity of the TB-23
to be pretty much in the middle of the TB-16 and the TB-29. I was even able to
change the names in game, so have fun captains!

subguru gets a LOT of attention from me, i have downloaded all the tutorials and missions from there, i guess i was just wondering which towed array i should use in the LA class....and i have yet to be sunk by the AI in a LA class (i doubt this is saying much, but i have heard that with LWAMI installed the AI is much more agressive, i dont have access to the net on the computer i have DW installed on, or i would try MP)

kcburyshaker 10-16-06 11:57 AM

thank you sonar732, that was the info i was needing.....i dont remember there being a readme with LWAMI, but i used the JGSME version of it.

and the LA class is not the noisiest SSN in the game, id say that would be the chinese Han class....sounds like a freight train in the water:D

Kapitan 10-16-06 11:59 AM

MP is a whole new ball game AI are easy kill's some of the good skippers here can find track and fire and kill you within 10 minuets sometimes if that, my fastest kill of a surface ship was 1 minuet and 14 seconds submarine was 4 minuets 37 seconds (after a 10 minuet wait limit)

But some guys can have you the second you enter it takes one silly mistake and kaboom your gone.

Kapitan 10-16-06 12:01 PM

The Han and Xia i can pick them up easy and i have tracked them with ease, but the noisest platform you can play in game is the 688i.

kcburyshaker 10-16-06 12:04 PM

well i am sure that DW's MP play can have its own bit of "camping" spawn sites that afflict FPS games, but then again, when youre good...youre just good......:D

the AI may be dumb after you have played MP for awhile, but since i cant do MP the AI is gonna hafta do it for now:damn:

i also happened upon a thread somewhere that there is a LWAMI 4.00? where is this at and is it finished?
