This was scary!
I got dc`ed to hell and back by some destroyers, but managed to evade them for a breather. During the decent I noticed that the boat started sinking by itself if I ordered periscope depth. I blew ballast lots of times to maintain 100 meters.
I fixed all the minor damage, and stopped all flooding. One of the fore torpedo tubes was completely destroyed, but the flooding was gone, so it could not be that? I fiddled away for a long time, all the time struggling to keep the boat from plummeting into critical depth, while at the same time praying that none of the depth charges hit me while I battled this strange problem. After a long time I got a little distance between me and the destroyers, sp I gambled on surfacing. This proved to be a serious problem, since the boat would not respond unless I went flank speed and blew ballast at the same time. When I finally got up, I noticed what was wrong. One of the tube doors where blown off! This is a first for me. I started recording after battling this for a long time on the surface, and the compressed air was very low. Vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoXpyQ5aqTg Anyone had this happen to them? It was really cool! PS: One of the destroyers followed me for two days(!) before finally catching me. At this point I made a U-turn (no aft fish) and charged him head on. It did not go well. RIP U-95. |
Uber damage Stabiz  can't say that has ever happened to me. But im sure it will soon as iam all ways getting badly banged about by the dd's.

I had not so serious problem as you, but had problem to keep boat levelled. So I figured after long time that I have to keep the repair team in comparment for longer time than I thought. There where water in so much that the boat was too heavy. And now a days I leave time to the team to pump it out.

Hmm! Nice one!
A thought! Did you tra "manualy" closing the tube door. A.k.a. choosing your weapon officer and press the button for tube doors! It probably wouldn't help, but still it might have been usefull! |
"Jawohl Herr Kaleun! Ausblassen!"
"Jawohl Herr Kaleun! Ausblassen!" "Jawohl Herr Kaleun! Ausblassen!" "Jawohl Herr Kaleun! Ausblassen!" "Jawohl Herr Kaleun! Ausblassen!" "Jawohl Herr Kaleun! Ausblassen!" :rotfl: By the way, how do you spell "Ausblassen"? |

This meant I had to run decks awash without wanting to. :rotfl: I love this game, something new happens very often. |
Can't say I've ever had anything like that happen to me, but I have had something similar (although I didn't think to make a cool video of it :p ).
I'd gotten ash-canned from Hell and, although my hull integrity never suffered, I'd had every compartment flooding to some degree. I'd shot down, heading to 160 meters, before I got nailed, and it took ages to stop all the flooding. And all the while I had DDs circling around overhead, dropping more depth charges while I was noisily doing repairs and pumping out water. At some point I lost the DDs. By then I was at 230 meters and steadily, albeit slowly, sinking further and further. Both dive planes were destroyed, and so was my compressor (so I had no compressed air to blow tanks). My electric engines were damaged; I could only get them at 2 knot max speed. So there I was, with a 100% hull integrity, all compartments repaired and pumped dry . . . and dive planes stuck in a descent position, with no compressed air to blow the tanks. I set the engines at back emergency, but all that did was slow the inevitable. It took around 30 minutes, but eventually I started hearing the dreaded breaking-glass sound as my hull started collapsing. 99% . . . 98% . . . 97% . . . 95% . . . 93% . . . 91% . . . 88% . . . 84% . . . 80% . . . Yep . . . starts off slow, but once it starts . . . --sighs-- |

I am uploading the dying moments of U-95 now. It is so strange how you sometimes forget what you did in extreme circumstances. Prepare for clumsy stabiz.

No music, no nothing, just the death of a badly battered sub with nowhere to go:

Damn Stabiz, looks like Das Boot on crack!!:o
What were you thinking taking on a DD on the surface? Wait a minute...Was this another Bernard movie in the making? |
Hehe, its what happened after the first clip. The destroyer chased me for one (or two) days. He was doing 19-20 knots, and I was doing 20 at flank speed. Suddenly he sped up a bit and started shelling me, and I had nowhere to go. (I dont think the battered hull could take more dc`ing, so I decided to gamble. It obviously failed. In addition I did not know if I would be able to submerge again, with regards to the blown torpedo hatch.)
Has anybody else had a destroyer on their tail for that long? I hoped he would keep his distance until we made it to Lorient. I would love to see him fight THAT crowd. Alas ... U-95 is dead. Long live U-67! |
Which mod is that?
|
heheeheh, that was totally suicidal man:rotfl:
|
I'm not sure, as it's hard to see, but it looks as if you still had water in your bow quarters. If so, that's why you had trouble staying on the surface and trouble staying trimmed when submerged.
