Counter detection
In a standard game, how many times can you be hit by sonar and at what strength before you are counter-detected?Was it the same for SC?
|
It doesn't work like that.
The sonar model is fairly complicated. A single ship can ping away all day and if the sound waves aren't bouncing back to his array with sufficient strength, he's not going to pick you up at all. Also, a single helo that dips right on top of you can have you fixed with a single ping. My advice is to play some time in a contact rich environment with truth on, trying various sensors on various platforms. Keep in mind, all ranges are highly variable based on acoustic conditions and platform orientation. Cheers, David |
Luftwolf was the logic the same for SC?

It's always been the same. It's not an increasing 'detection counter'. You'll be detected if the sonar conditions are right and you happen to wander inside the detection range of the active sonar (or passive).

Thankyou for the info.Does anybody have a detection range chart for various sonar/enviromental combinations?
|
Anything inside 40km and theoretically you're detectable. Don't start worrying about it until within 20km. Stay under thermoclines to get closer, or if there is none, stay close to the seabed. On an OHP with Lwami 3.02 we can get returns on objects about 20km away but the signals are very weak. But the signals can be localized using single beam mode. So keep that in mind. Using the layer is an effective tool for getting past surface ships.

I do not know if this is Simulated in DW...:hmm: |
TLAM, I think we were talking only about Active Sonar.
