No enemy attacking me butI get serious damage. WTF???
I snuck into a convoy and lined up a C3 with my last two fish. I put both amidship and as they hit I heard glass breaking and the forward crew quarters started flooding and my hull integraty was 31%. I did a look around to see if anything was shooting at me but no one was..
I started plunging and the hull integraty dropped until I sunk at about 100meters in spite of 100% damage control activated. I have hit battleships at close range and had them blow up and not have any damage. In fact, I have never been damaged by a ship exploding ever in SH3. Nothing has ever caused this kind of damage or ever minor damage as no enemy attacked me in this incident. Anyone ever have this happen? Was this a fluk or have I been lucky not seeing this before? I have on occasion gone back to a saved game as it reloads, horrible noise happens lights flicker I go to camera view and the ship is spinning bow down like a top then boom abandon career.

Yes, happen to me some times, hit a cargo ship loaded with explosives nearest than 400/500m, and you are done..... :88)

Wlcome to the world of the "Exploding Ammo ship" club ! Yep you guessed it, if an ammo ship goes BOOM and your to close, you take damage and can even go BOOM yourself! Minimum SAFE distance to all Frieghters just to be sure is over 1000m. See it can change depending on the size of the ship and its cargo load out.
I had a nasty surprise whan I sunk a liner that was carring Ammo, killed me out right at over 800m away. It also sunk the 3 small merchants around it - 1 astern and 1 either side in the convoy ! |
I once shot a cargo carrying amo and when it went boom it also took an escort destroyer near by for me

Which files in the sh3 structure control damage and damage radius from exloding ships? Thanks! |
You know something, I've never looked for it !
I'm only going by whats happened to me in game, I have a sneaky feeling that cargo explosions (ie : ammo) may not be adjustable. But if it is we will find it 1 day ! :D |
Well after a quick look it maybe in this file : DC_X_H.zon but the values dont add up unless there is a multipler some where OR more instances of cargo space on certain ships has a combined effect. But its the only 1 I can find that relates to an ammo type of explosion with min/max effect and min/max radius, and is not related to any weapon/munisions as far as I can tell.
Funny thing is if you break down the file name it could read like this. DC - Depth Charge X - Explosion H - Hold (least ways thats my guess). |
DOHHhh I thought that was it, it aint. Its to do with DC Launch from a KGun !

Thanks, I thought this might be the case. Since it has never happened before I had to consider it as a possible bug and wanted to see if it was part of the game.
I play once dead even if it is a fluke so U-712 will RIP and I start over once again. BTW, I almost always shoot under 500 meters so having sunk hundreds of ships and never once having this I will take my chances and continue to "be more aggressive" :rotfl: Wulfmann |
I also had an ammo ship blow and take out an escort that was pinging me. Those ammo ships are ready to blow- I used a wakehoming torpedo that just clipped the rear end of the c2, and BAM. Destroyer on other side gets split in half and burns down.

I had it happen to me once in Gunnery Training. Got real close so I wouldn't miss, and I didn't. I posted it in a thread titled something like "Horrible Tragedy at Submarine School".
I've never seen one take out an escort. Cool! |
I had no idea this was even modeled. Totally sweet.
