improved u-boat was beautiful
Red Brow feels like a dummy for not going to one of these big mods sooner. Now i think a career may be fun to play. But i have one problem - my video card is really messing up. So i have two questions:
1) how can i keep this mod on my SH3 but reset the range for sight back to SH3 original specs or at least reduce it mid way? 2) and or, what kind of video card should i buy? I have another question to - IuB does not have fatigue - though it has an option to go to RUB mode. Can i just load vitamins and get a half way point? |
ATI video cards play best with SH3, nVida video cards have several graphical problem playing the game.
I use a ATI X800XT PE and I have no problem using the 16km visibility mod. The worst FPS that I get is 17 looking back at the subpens in HT 1.47, otherwise I get 22 around the harbour and 36-50 in the open sea with the following settings 1280x1024, 4 AA x 4 AF (which means zero jags since I like quality versus performance). |
the video card u buy depends on your mother bord and processer
no use haveing a top of the range card that is limited by a poor mother bord or processer |
nVidia cards should be fine with the latest drivers. I'm using nVidia 6800gt. Originally I was having a problem with strange textures on my crews' faces, but using the latest driver from nvidia.com fixed the problem.

Does this mean that the nVidia spray bug and sun bug has been fixed too ??? |

There's a sweet spot in price range with regards to performance. A pretty powerful ATI chip based X800 GTO video card can be had for 150-160$ on sale. That will get you 12 pixel pipelines and plenty of framerate on most games. For extremely high demanding you may need more power to run full anti-aliasing at high framerates such as when playing DOOM3 maxxed all out. But SH3 would play excellent of the X800 GTO. For 200-225$ on sale. you could pick up a 16 pixel pipeline video card that could do more framerate in DOOM3. But for SH3 you'd not need that extra power. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// My system's framerate studders too using IMPROVED UBOAT 1.02. But i think we can adjust DOWN some of the particles and texture quality to compensate. I like the true sight distance so i can't ever go back to 8 miles. And if you stay in the scope view there's no framerate hit. I've been too busy to play much but had some time now to take it on again using IUB 1.02. Last time i played i had time to go on two patrols and saw my first light cruiser far off. COOL!! Never actually saw a convoy yet. heeheehe. Though i prefer to hunt for a Task Force and a Carrier or Battleship. On a good video card these ships will sure look neat no doubt. Nothing like the older subsims that's for sure. I've just seen the light cruisers thus far and am quite impressed with the power they seem to portray well in this game. I'd like to see some battle between Task Forces someday. Is that a possible thing in the dynamic of the game i wonder?? I understand the Bismark is let loose in the game. Hopefully sometime in the Campaign mode as well as on Mission mode... |
CaptainKobuk:
You need to use the U-Boat War Ace mod, there are a whole lot of "scripted" surface battles included in that mod. |
thanks CaptainKobuk, i to am to lazy to stop playing to fix the problems. i just don't look at burning ships up close. i burned IuB off and then missed it and loaded it back on. But i did go back into it and restored many sh3 default settings. but i have to buy an all new pc anyway so that i can play the new Elder Scrolls Obliv. and when i do that my sh3 video troubles will cease. :smug:

ATI 9800
I use the ATI 9800 and stuff looks great and sails smooth on my 'puter.
I had an nVidia card on my other system but ended up having some problems. Not that's it's not a good card, I just couldn't get the performance out of it. |
Yeah SH3 is not too demanding a gaME on a video card. In terms of the current top video cards like the Nvidia 7800. An ATI 9800 is adequit.
But if yoU are buying a new card you might as well skip spending a hundred on a ATI 9800 and go 50 bucks more for triple the power and enough to play any game out there. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I'll check out that Aces mod. To see if it's compatible with IUB 1.02. Thanks for the alert on it. I'll check for it on the downloads areas out there. http://server3.realsimulation.com/u-boot/SH3Mods/ |

This game runs and looks great on my old Ti4200 128 meg MSI card |

How about the nVidia sun bug ??? |
This is the primary reason why I am looking at getting a new cards...the nVidia Sun Bug. (Look at the sun and the smoke from ships goes white)
I hear that the 66 or 68 nvida cards do not have this problem. Is that true? I have a 5900XT and I need to move it to my second machine. |

It's a problem with newer cards and drivers IMHO |

I havea 7800GTX and it runs SH3 flawlessly at 1600x1200 max FSAA and max AF. You mean the sun bloom and bow spray, or are there others I am missing? |
