watch crew visual ranges
I use IUB 1.02 and it gives longer visual ranges. My watch crew can spot targets at the range of 20 000 meters in clear weather (I can see the target from about 17 000 meters in the game). Day or night. I don't mind if that happens in daylight, it is possible to see targets with mast height of 20-25 meters at distance around 20 - 23 km's from height of a U-Boat bridge. Even longer if there is smoke from the funnel(s).
What is quite annoying is that my crew can do this in darkness too. That's something I'd like to change. I have tried to play with minitweaker without a result. Can the night vision for the crew be changed somehow and what would be "realistic" range for that. Thanks Krupp |
mini tweeker --> sensors.dat --> Visual --> PreciseRange / MaxRange
for comparison, stock SH3 is 6000 (PreciseRange) and 8000 (MaxRange) IUB settings are higher, therefore the crew has longer spotting abilities. |
In sensors.dat file, the "visual" max range is 17000 meters and they still can see up to 20 000 meters. There is no min range at all or then I'm not looking from the right place. :-?
Oh,You edited....need to recheck tweaker... |
Precise range is 15500 and max range is 17000. Like I said, they can still see targets from 20 000 meters. Also, how can I change the night visual range? Is there something in scene_dat file I should change?

Ok, thanks M :) I'll keep looking and trying....

You can try messing around with scene.dat, but I'm not totally sure what it would do... But it might work.
I'll tell you that Ubi did not make things simple enough. A few simple sliders or config files would have been better suited for such a complicated game. Geez... :-? |
Sorry Krupp, did you removed the renamed file ?
Please verify if you had removed the renamed file created by Mini Tweaker program from the working folder. Just move it to another folder and try a new time..... If not try editing manually the value : The values you mus to edit are into sensors.dat file, in the line : 06e5d8 , use a hexeditor, just edit the value to adjust the visual spoting capabilities at your pleasure. In example : 06e5d8 00 40 9c 46 MaxRange..@.F > 20000 meters 06e5d8 00 60 ea 46 MaxRange..´éF > 30000 meters |
@Redwine
No, I didn't remove any files. I just edited new max and precise range values via tweaker, but couldn't see any changes in the game. I use sh commander and I did rollback before. The ranges are acceptable for daylight use, but at night :nope: . But still it's better than original ranges IMO. Heh, I have never tried to do any hex editing manually and it (instructions in tweaker program) looks damn difficult. |
What Redwine is saying is that you have to remove the backup file that mini tweeker creates.
Just look in the Library folder and remove "Copy of Sensors.dat" file. You MUST remove it for your changes to be applied. You CANNOT just rename it and leave it there. |
:doh: Dumb me! :oops:
:yep: There it is (was). Vielen danke! Edit: So, this might be the same with all the rest tweaked (copy of ) files like depth charges, naval mines, hedgehogs etc.? remove them from the library?. Just to make sure dumb me gets it right this time.... |
