Tico, it could fend off attack from a kirov with AEGIs and then slot kirov with a few harpoons, might not sink the bugger but it would put it out of action.
|
I have no clue so I voted for the underdog
|
Not really a far poll see as the two were built for different roles. Though I'd have to say Ticonderoga if there was to be a slugfest.

I too really have no clue when it comes to ships and sometimes subs!
But... Kirov ALL DA WAY  |
I voted Ticonderoga because I'm American and you know how they are.
Everything American is the best! |
it would take 11 harpoons to take this kirov out (american quoted) the kirov has three types of SAM missiles all working independantly not to mention the CIWS system so around 1 in 50 harpoons would get threw (offical statistic quoted USN)
the ticos air defence system consists only of SM-2 which couldnt shoot down numerous (about 12 or 14) SS-N-19 ship wreck missiles and one ship wreck could put an aircraft carrier out of commission (not sink it mission kill) harpoons are so dinky they would litteraly bounce off the hull the Exocet you stand more chance but again it would take a fair few. Kirov has the upper hand with missile range all he would have to do is send up a helo to link the tico's position then fire SS-N-19's at it the missile will find the target by its self. only missile more powerful than SS-N-19 is the SS-N-22 sunburn and thats carrier by the sovremenny's |
I voted for the Kirov. I read the The Dictionary of Modern War by Edward Luttwak and Stuart L. Koehl, which is like an encyclopedia for everything to do with the military. Detailed stats, on subs, ships, aircraft, tanks, missiles, ect and their capabilities. I voted for the Kirov. The book was written in 1990, and since then Tico have advanced and the Peter the Great is the only Kirov that is still seaworthy. But as for a 1 on 1 battle, the Kirov would win. The Kirov is classified by the west as a battle cruiser because it has such a powerful array of weapons. The Shipwrecks are supersonics missiles and would spend less time in the interception envelope, and also have much larger warheads than the much slower (and easier to shoot down) Harpoons.
I also tested this with Harpoon 2002. The Harpoon community puts an enormous (near fanatical) amount of work in making sure the data on everything in the game is kept up to date and realistic. The Kirov won every time. |
