Officer Icon Mod v1.2 -Final

The default officer icon images annoyed me because no matter which crew member you place in there it always displays the same generic portrait. It would have been cool if the portraits actually updated to match the crew member like the 3D models do.

I changed the officer icons to images that portray the station of each officer rather than their portraits. I think its more practical this way and it blends it nice with the existing layout. The icons are modified screenshots from the uboat's interior.

Now Several different options are available:
-------------------------------------------------------
2 sets of officer icon backgrounds (OfficerA.tga):
- Semi-Transparent
- Standard
Both sets offer 3 additional options:
- Without Labels
- With English Labels
- With German Labels
Also provided 2 versions of the texture that is used when a station is unoccupied (OfficerB.tga):
- No image (fully transparent)
- A semi-transparent black outline

Captain America, I like it.

KptnLt. Eric,
http://www.dot-whatever.com/U-Boat/page/main.html is a cool link. I wish I knew how to do this kind of stuff but alas, I fear I am too old. Where are you in Ireland? I just spent several weeks in Mullingar and loved it.

Thanks for nice comments. ;)

I just uploaded a newer version. I added an alpha channel to OfficerB.tga. Now if an officer station is unmanned no texture will be displayed rather than the original black outline. Credit goes to Vanagan.

Good! Stuff!

I've updated the mod one last time....I didn't like not having the empty black boxes when a station was unoccupied because I like to right click on icons even when an officer is not there to quickly jump to that position. So I added an optional file that adds the black boxes again but this time the texture is transparent so it doesn't stand out as much.

Well done, clever solution to those not so wonderful Character Renders. :)

sweet mod!

Very nice mod Captain! :|\ I'm trying the set without labels, the graphics are easy to interpret.

Btw your original post also shows a gun-metal color Observation periscope lens-ring, instead of the default 'black' color. I tried to find a periscope mod just like that, but no luck. Do you happen to remember the name of the mod, or where it was downloaded?

CWorth 08-15-05 07:04 AM

Very nice work on those icons..Definately alot better than the stock faces.

Make that two of us that would like to know what the name of that periscope ring mod is.

Just wanted to say that I've used your officer icon mod for a few days now, and I'm not going back. Thanks!

Oh, and I'm curious about the observation scope as well. It also looks like it's a bit lighter than the standard scope (judging from the lens 'rings'), or am I seeing things?

I know that the observation scope is supposed to be better than the attack scope in low light, but as far as I've understood this is not the case in defualt SH3? A fix for this would be great. Then I might even start using the observation scope from time to time.

Looks great, I'll be using this!
