AOB Calculation from Mast
Hi there, just thought I'd propose a way to calculate AOB. This only assumes the mast is straight up and down. I'm not sure if I have the calculation right where 1 degree on the protractors = 10 degrees of AOB. Might need a function in place of a ratio, or some adjustment for the center mast angle. Also, some masts are a bit crooked or wider at the bottom, so sometimes you have to figure out where the middle of the mast is when using your protractor - either using the average middle looking spot, or smoothing out the middle as a trendline to find the right spot.
(Maybe even I should just hang a plumb-bob from the protractor instead of using the mast angle) However, I noticed all the masts are pretty much an x on a stick with even sides so figured I'd try to calculate AOB on them. I used an example from https://www.subsim.com/tips/wolfpack/aob.htm https://i.ibb.co/3pGNy33/AOB-Calculation-Mast.png |
Are you measuring the tilt of the mast itself? (Like the ship rolls somehow)
Or the appearance angle of a horizontal arm with reference to straight down? |
I think the horizontal part of the mast, angled with straight down might give AOB. I was basing it off of the photos but, I haven't been able to put it to use in game yet. Last game I was in the masts had no horizontals lol
Next time I get a horizontal arm on a mast I'll try it. |
Welcome aboard!
