Are we real ?

An MIT professor has said he believes it's "more likely than not" that we are living in some kind of simulated universe, given that we ourselves are not far away from being capable of creating hyper-realistic simulations ourselves.

A lot of people have said that a lot of times in the past. At this point in time the real question is, how would you know? We are already trapped inside our own minds, with no way of truly understanding what others are thinking. With that in mind I don't see how it really matters.

The eye cannot watch itself. Zen understands this better than many academics nowadays. My question would be: what is it that thinks: "eye"? Does it start and does it end somewhere, this thing sombody (who?) names "eye"? Can "eye" and "watching" be separated? Is there this separation betwee3n subject and object, thing and process?

Maybe we should not say "we have eyes". Maybe we should say "we are the watching itself".

What is it that watches, then?

Steve are correct it have ben discussed before and if so, what can we do about it

It also made gave a little smile-´cause I was thinking.

There are people who can't stand some of our politicians and if we truly live in a simulated world, then perhaps those people may think:

Why did those programmer put those politicians into the equation

I also like Skybird's approach on this subject.

not sure one can say the programmer placed politicians into the equation. I think what was programmed into the system is vast number of possibilities available for us to choose from (cause and effect) that can produce politicians.

The law of causation is the philosophy of science. I think you will find most major religions will agree with such philosophy too.

Each of us is responsible for the choices we make.

PRECISELY! Each existence is a punishment for the previous existence and so it goes for all eternity. Occasionally, I've been an amoeba; which considerably reduces stress levels....:timeout:

Only when you believe in Hinduism. It is of course a good regulator against people behaving too badly, when they know what's waiting for them in their next life.
Jesus, on the other hand, forgives all in evangelical belief, hell is reserved for catholics.

Roman catholics are not quite heretics I guess.

Brexit !? Isn't this a part of the reality in the Quantum Mechanics ?

It's all fun and games until we work out an FTL solution and they power down the simulation to trawl the logs.

Another aspect on this thing called reality is

our perception on reality
