How to send a contact report?

In the official manual of the game it writes: "Sending contact reports will give precise enemy locations to the commander of the Uboat-s (referred to as the BdU, for Befehlshaber der Unterseeboatwaffe). This can result in Luftwaffe or Kriegsmarine attacks!"

I don't have any issue with patrol reports, I send it and I receive an answer after. If I send a contact report nothing happens: I can not see it in the Radio Messages Station and I don't receive any message from BdU:

Do you have any ideea?

To receive air support the friendly airport must be near enough, the airport competent enough, and: your target important enough. And even then you will not always get support...

But stay tuned for messages from BDU: you could get asked to check a zone for a ship etc.

There is a delay in sending Reports. One or two houres, i dont know for shure. If the Message is not written down to the Log, it is not send. Evan the Funker tells you it is. So when the Message is not send, you cant get any support. Air-Support only within (german) Air-coverage.

If you think you dont have any issues, that means not you dont have any issues. More Messages send, the higher the risk to get detected by enemy. They also hear and receive your messages. Above of the games probability-settings they will send Aircover into your Area.

Greetings.

There was no problem how to get air support. The problem was I could not send a contact report!
But I've solved the problem.
Thank you!

Really?
It happens in the game too, like in real situations?

Yes.
Look in "SH3:\data\Cfg\AirStrike.cfg":
"Enemy Air Strike Probability Increase on Radio Messages Sent="

If you are detected, enemy See-units (Destroyers, Speed-boats, Trawlers) in Range will run highspeed to your area also. You can only break this sittuation by submerge and try to hide you for a while from any enemy sensors.
Keep in mind, Snorkel and Periscope can be detected.

Greetings.

...
Greetings.

Thank you, I did not now...
I know the radar can detect the snorkel!
If I detect a convoy or more warships I can send a contact report. If I detect only a merchant I can not send a contact report... still a mistery :hmmm:

Thank you for your answers and information, when you are new there are many things you have to learn.
However, the three received messages are boring: "Keep up the good work" or "Be more agressive" and after you have left without the torpedoes: "Return to home".

If you're meaning the scope can be detected by radar, then that's a flaw in the game.
That wasn't possible until the 1970s iirc.

Install Hsie's and or Stiebler's patches and or GWX or NYGM and you'll get many more messages.

"ASV Mk.XI had a maximum range of about 60km against ships, and in good conditions and at low altitude (2000 feet) it could detect a surfaced submarine at about 20km. But it could detect a schnorkel only in very calm seas and at distances below 8km. It gave bearings with an accuracy of about 2 degrees."

Sure, but a schnorkel was a MUCH larger target than a scope head. I have no problem with it being detected in a WW2 sim, but a scope head should not be.

This means that you have right!
BTW why to chose GWX and why NGYM?

If you want to answer it is!

Silent Hunter 3 manual, page 55:

Radar
Used by both aircraft and escorts, radar can detect a target miles away, muchbeyond your visual range. (...) Advances in technology led to even the snorkel head being detectable towards the end of the war.

Regarding the snorkel, as I said, I have no problem with it being detected. My comments were solely regarding a periscope, by itself.

Regarding GWX and NYGM, both are outstanding mods. I prefer NYGM, both can't go wrong with either.
