Trouble installing mods

After a rather lengthy time away from Silent Hunter 4, I have reinstalled the game and want to get back to playing. However, I am having trouble getting mods to install correctly.

I have JSGME installed, but I suspect that I am doing something wrong. Here's the steps I followed:

Copied set up files to the main game folder.....Ubisoft/Silent Hunter/
Ran set up file
Copied Mods into the ....Ubisoft/Silent Hunter/JSGME/MODS folder
Ran JSGME
Selected GFO mod
Closed JSGME
Ran Silent Hunter

No changes were made, it's as if the mod didn't install correctly. I would appreciate some assistance. Thank you in advance.

Jeff

There's the known problem of doubled folders in the Mods file

This:

"Silent Hunter/JSGME/MODS"

should look like this:

"Silent Hunter/MODS"

There should not be a sub folder called JSGME before the MOD folder.

When posting mod issues you should post the mod list from JSGME not just type it out. This way we get to see what version of the mods you are running and the version of JSGME and mods that follow. You should also list game the game version you are running.

I am using version 1.5 of the game. The mod folder was inside the JSGME folder. I will move it to the game folder and try again. The mod I am trying to use is the Game Fix Only version 1.1.

Hi Jeff

Websters GFO mod comprises of :

Websters_GFO-mod_v1.1 (zip file)

Webster’s GFO Mod v1.1 (Folder 1)

Game Fixes Only Mod v1.1 (Folder 2)

Data (file)

Copy and paste Folder 2 to your JSGME Mods folder

Do not forget that you also need Websters New Order Bar Menu for v1.5 mod as well

This mod comprises of:

Websters New Order Bar Menu for v1.5 (Zip file)

Websters New Order Bar Menu for v1.5 (Folder 1)

New Orders Bar Menu (Folder 2)

Data (file)

Copy and paste Folder 2 to your JSGME Mods folder

It is important that you read the document that comes with the mod as the GFO changes a lot of the stock game and also includes some of Webster’s additional mods which are included in the GFO (super mod)

If you are not sure about other mods let me know what you wish to add and I will let you know whether they are suitable and the correct order.

You can also look at my tutorial post #107 where I have a beginners guide for a SH4 mod soup.

This is based on Webster’s GFO mod, so you might find this useful.

My tutorial post #124 has the download links to post #107.

Thank you for the assistance. I remember some of the changes that GFO 1.1 made. I moved the MOD folder to the Silent Hunter 4 folder and that did the trick. The mod shows up fine now.

Before I use the realism mods, like TMO, I need to hone my skills more.

One thing I like about this board is the help the newer players get from those who have been around a while. Hopefully, I can be contribute to the board as well.

Hi Jeff

I would go to this as the next step up from GFO

Download Link to SH4 TMOwtw 2.5 (A Lighter Version Of The Original TMO)

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=194223

Here are some of the ways it differs from TMO:

The boxes, tails and ship outlines on the navigation map are like stock.

The Nomograph is gone.

The Next/Previous Unit keys, < > are enabled.

The enemy sensors are toned down a bit. Watch it, they are still very dangerous.

The Thermal Layer is very strong.

If you are under the layer you can run right under an escort at 1/3 ahead on Silent Running and they may detect something, but they will not be able to locate you well enough to attack.

The Thermal Layer is your best friend.

The Gramophone icon has been replaced by a ship draft chart.

The buttons to work the Gramophone are on the bottom right corner of the chart.

The clock is a gold 1939 Hamilton, because I like it.

The deck gun loads in 4 seconds.

The torpedoes are very reliable during the early war years and get even better after mid 1943.

If you want to change back to the poorly performing torpedoes that were in use during the early war years, you can enable the Historic Torpedoes MOD in the Support Folder/Optonal MODs.

The Sub underwater marker is back, sort of.

It has been replaced by the wTw logo.

There are MODs to remove the marker or change it back to stock in the Support Folder/Optional MODs

The Captains desk photo is the iconic Betty Grable pin-up pic, again becuase I like it.

Worth considering.

I play it and it is very good as you still have the map contacts.
