Noob Question - Installation

Ahoy, I've been enjoying my return to SH3 so much that I downloaded SH4+ from Amazon. I noticed all the install guides say to patch to 1.4, but the my .exe properties tell me I'm already at version 1.5.0.0. Is that a misleading property, or am I ready to test drive SH4?

Lower right hand corner of the splash screen will show your true version number

1.5 is the latest version with the UBoat Missions add-on. I assume you purchased the Gold edition? You are ready to cast your lines.

Thanks all ...

I'm plodding along with the generic SH4 1.50 now. I thought I'd get a feel for the sim before deciding which way to go on a Mega Mod.

Best Graphics?

OK, back in business with the Gold edition. I've only been through the four training missions and watch a lot of videos, but here's my early observations.

I set graphics on max (I have a good i7, 6-core, 12GB ram, dual GTX580 system so it rarely has problems) and match the resolution to my native 1920x1080 setting. I still feel like I'm playing an arcade cartoon game, which hurts immersion and some things are distorted like I now have an oblong periscope viewer and gauges are hard to read.

I got the recommended nVIDIA settings from another thread here, but is there a preferred resolution and in-game graphic setting that works best for a wide screen? Also, without getting into the TMO vs RFB debate, do the mega mods help with graphics? I'm going for immersion & some TMO feedback has made me reluctant to take on escorts that can detect me from infinity.

The gui is going very slowly for me compared to SH3, but I'm attributing that to my learning curve.

I appreciate any responses -- it saves a lot of trial & error time.

If you have a 64 bit system and have at least four gigabytes of RAM be sure to take advantage of all you have and get "Large Address Aware".

Can't help with nVIDIA graphics because I have a RADEON card.

Someone will post.

Recommend GFO mod to start, then TMOwTW. After that, either TMO or RFB - most also use the RSRD campaign..... I use a different campaign.

Happy Hunting!

Very good input

Thanks for the info aanker.

Yes, I went through the nvida thread in detail and fortunately was able to accomplish everything through the nvidia control panel.

A thread on Webster's GFO is telling me it's not (or wasn't) compatible with TMO, so I've held off on that. I'm looking at setting up TMO2.5, RSRDC_TMO, Traveller Mod v2.6 TMO, and Improved Stock Environment_v3_TMO.

I also made sure I have the latest JSME, which carried over from my flight sim days (where there was non-stop modding work). I see you are very active in modding here, so here's a big salute and thank you from one of the rookies!

Be sure to get TMO_25_small_patch if you are installing TMO 2.5 to avoid the Tambor campaign upgrade bug.

It installs on top of TMO 2.5
