Hello, Just registered, also how do i change the time compression to above 1024
I can not seem to get the time compression above 1024. I have edited the Data/Cfg/Main.cfg file to read Maximum=4096 but this changed nothing. am I missing something?
I'm playing Silent Hunter 3 |
Edit the file in 'My Documents'.
Welcome aboard, Herr Kaleun. |
Also if you use SH3 Commander it gives you a lot of control over time compression and various in-game events.

"edit Data/Cfg/Main.cfg"....there are 2 copies of that file !
Be advised that when you start a SH3 mission or career, SH3 copies the master Main.cfg file from /Ubisoft/Silent Hunter III/Data/Cfg/ to your My Documents folder where your mission/career files will be stored. NEW careers/missions will copy the edited master file and you will see the changes when you start. If you have already begun a career, editing just the master file in SH3 will not affect any existing careers. You will need to locate and edit the copied Main.cfg file in My Documents. |

High time compression makes the other units, both air and on the surface, jump with bigger leaps through the world. This can have an effect in two ways. 1: They take less steps in moving through the world. Meaning they also give less chances of ending up in your detection area, especially if you only rely on visual detection of your crew. The unit that gets near you might make such big leaps that it skips your detection area entirely. You'll notice that encountering air units becomes much more unlikely. Now, normally you would not want to encounter them at any time. But in this case it would be somewhat of a cheat, as it removes your challenge. TLDR: Nothing happens. Things get boring! 2: Units, most notably air units, make big leaps per unit of time. This means that they also suddenly might appear at point-blank range deep inside your area. And since it is computer AI, they get to react the quickest, and deliver the first punch. There is even a TC setting that keeps on running at 8x after detection (not sure what sort of event). You on the other hand have no time to order an emergency dive. (Or notice that last kind of event) So, expect bombs to be dropped on your conning tower from high above, or shells to be fired by escorting DDs. TLDR: Things get hectic before you can say "What!!" and see "Game Over". So, be careful what you wish for. Limiting between 64x and 512x is in the long run better for your nerves (both in an activating sense as a calming sense). Also be aware that fatigue updates stop happening above a certain TC threshold. Again, good if they are fresh, but equally annoying if they are worn off after prolonged duties. (But most people turn that off anyway because of the micromanagement involved.) |

Welcome Aboard,
I just installed GWX gold, I do not think its a good thing to raise the TC up past where it is, as mentioned above, air units will be on top of you before you have time to get control, I know this with my experience with SH4 my max in 4 was 512 when on patrol |
I used Commander to max my TC at 256, anything above that I tend to run into bad things happening, like maritime patrol aircraft showing up on my doorstep in the middle of the night, or a DD running me down in bad weather when my entire watch crew apparently become blind as bats.
