Torpedo reload bug? Or did I miss something...
 
Today, I intercepted a convoy. My plan of attack was to dive below the thermal layer, charge in, go to periscope depth abeam of a large passenger ship, fire 6 fish, and dive again to escape the escorts.

All went fine until I fired the fish. I fired on a spread, but a DD lumbered right into the path of the torpedoes and took most of them in the side.

Scratch one DD. Another was astern and I managed to pop off 2 on him and sink him as well.

Now at this point I notice that the torps aren't reloading. I've got plenty to load, they just won't go.

I tried everything I could think of and the clowns just won't load them.

Battlestations off then on again, Silent running on and off, the crew just sat on their hands.

Now I know that being at Battlestations too long will result in your sub coming to a halt with all attempts to set the speed resulting in "Unable to comply", but they were obeying my engine settings so I don't think that was it.

Is there a bug that does this? Or did I screw up and miss something?

check the auto load button is activated (the big torpedo picture on the button)

if that's not it then rotate the crew with battle stations off, if they are too tired they wont do anything.

if its none of that then it could be one of those times an action gets stuck in the game and saving and reloading the game will usually fix things.

hmmm.

The big reason I'm asking is because I've been playing a career with the following rules:

I can only reload if
  1. I am continuing a previous game
  2. I have a CTD or other "bug"
  3. I get killed by time compression (like hitting land or similar)
I ended up dead, though I went out fighting... My inability to reload the torpedoes was a major contributing factor. So I'm trying to figure out if I am really dead, or if it was a bug.

EDIT: And, yes, the Auto-Reload was on.

The only thing I can think of would be the silent running. You can't reload torps when using silent running; it makes too much noise.

No I wasn't rigged for silent running, and I even turned it on and the off again in the hope it would "wake up" the crew...

If you left them at batle stations too long you get nothing ... it will also get you to a full stop in the middle of the ocean but I suspect the auto load button was off.

Your set of rules would allow you to reload.
If every other option as mentioned by others wasn't the culprit (crew fatigue, silent running and auto load button) it might be a bug.


PS_ I'd test and see what happends, if the torpedoes reload then continue with the career as per your rules. If they don't, and you're sure non of the mentioned possibilities are the cause, end the career and start over.
