Well I love both, I prefer TMO because it is updated and fixed fairly regularly. The RFB team has not been able to update in a while, although capnscurvy said he is working on some things.I like RFB's more realistic approach to the boat, it's not a tank, you have to watch what you do.The boat does not stop on a dime or reach full speed in 20 seconds, can't turn on a dime either, which makes you plan and act differently, more realistically, although they dive too fast.RSRD is a must since RFB keeps the stock campaign, so run RSRD which is an excellent mod but it does need some updating, the creator has disappeared from modding and subsim, so never updates and no one with the knowledge seems to want to touch it. The RFB RSRD has an issue where it nerfs the visual sensors on planes and escorts, they are blind as bats, I have had planes fly withing 4000 yards of me on a clear day, just passed overheard, did it many times. Most people don't notice this because they dive and I was one, but I decided to test it because I was suspicious. The RFB damage model for enemy ships is pretty cool but it can be annoying that ships never split in two or catastrophic explosions, say when you nail big fat tanker full of fuel, does not destroy them.Read many accounts of tankers and ammo laden ships, going up in a fireball and sinking in 1-2 minutes.Every ship modded with the damage model takes 10-40 minutes to sink, which in RL some didnt sink for days but still.RFB is an outstanding mod though:salute:
TMO is an amazing mod and at this time, I prefer it.TMO with RSRD provides a pretty realistic/historical type of gameplay.Again though, RSRD is in need of a facelift but the TMO RSRD does not have the visual sensors issue. In fact, I have to run a TMO visuals sensors mod over RSRD because got tired of escorts spotting me 10 miles away lol. Gameplay is unrivaled with TMO though, the escorts are tough(not too tough though) and the little features make all the difference.I would like to see the RFB sub model incorporated into TMO though.Would be nice to have a more realistic behaving sub as far as speed, turning, acceleration etc goes.
Both are amazing pieces of work and do not believe anyone should declare one better as it is a matter of preference,I currently prefer TMO though since it is more up to date and has seemingly small features that make a big difference in gameplay(able to dive Balao or Tench to 600 feet as in RL, radar detection equipment etc) Give both a try.
