New to the Forums
And I hope this isn't too much of a noob question you hear a lot.
I've read such mixed reviews about SH5 but really want to get into it. With the mods available and patches, is this a game I should invest some time into? I know it's kind of a silly question to ask a bunch of folks on a forum dedicated to the game, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks for your time. |
WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:
The question to your question is, what are you looking for? Have you ever played a subsim before. If you're looking for a great gaming experience, then yes, in its current state SH5 is wonderful. The old negative reviews were because of problems. They have mostly been solved, and many people love the game. The current negative reviews have nothing to do with the game, but rather with what it represents. Fans of the older sims dislike parts of SH5 because it doesn't represent what they see as a 'proper' submarine simulation. I'm one of them, but don't let that stop you. SH5 is well worth the price ($5 on Amazon), so even if you end up not liking it you won't really have lost anything. But I think you'll be happy. |
Welcome to Subsim JughedJones. :salute:

Thanks a lot guys!
And no, I don't think I would be put off by a lack of ultra realism in the sim, as long as it's mostly realistic ;) BTW I've got: intel I7 920@2.67 Radeon HD 4800 4g Ram Am I going to be OK to run this with the necessary mods? |
Welcome.

Howdy mate! You will enjoy, the game and this site is awesome!!!:arrgh!:
|
I'd like to thank everyone again for the welcomes, very nice of you.
Got the game last night.. running a little rough (only when I walk around the boat though.) Seems fun though, I'm going to look into the mods now. The UI in the tutorials I've been watching online look nothing like the UI I have, so I'm going to try to rectify that. Thanks again! |
complete the tutorial first with the stock UI (sink polish ships and go to kiel harbour) before installing and playing with mods....otherwise you will encounter CTD's...
|
uh-oh.
too late! should i uninstall the mods and start over the campaign? Second question, I definitely saw the difference with weather and effects, but I see no UI differences. Will this change when I start over and do the tutorial again? |

Alright,
I'm going to start my question all over again, hopefully all you guys aren't out drinking tonight like I should be! I can't seem to get the mods in order... I put in the MightyFine Crew, Dynamic Environment, and Dark Wraith's UI... things went swimmingly! Everything was running great and I was very happy. And then...... I just couldn't leave well enough alone, and tried to add TDW FX add as well, and it screwed everything up. I know I did it out of order, so I re-installed and started all over again. This time I did it by the numbers and did the "Balanced Mod List" from http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=190656 . Still when I got to the bunker after I installed Mightyfine, Dynamic, TDR UI and FX, the Language pack, and DBSM sound mods, (the way it was ordered and following all instructions BTW) I got a big confluence of windows and crap littering up the screen. Every time I add one of the mods on the list I get a warning in my Gneric Mod Enabler telling me that certain parts of mods have already been addressed, thereby cancelling out previous ones... It's pretty damn confusing/aggravating! Should I just go back to the original few mods I had and be happy? Or is there a trick that I'm not seeing to get me going here? Thanks a lot in advance! |
Not sure if that's what's causing it, but I'm fairly sure that you need to enable FX before NewUIs.
Also, sometimes mod mixing can leave bits and pieces behind even after you disable the previous setup, which would necessitate a reinstall of SH5, but I wouldn't go to that extreme just yet. For what it's worth, here's my somewhat modest mod soup and it's stable as a rock. Check the mods you're using and see which order they appear in my list. (Oh, and some of them have been modified slightly by me, so if the names don't match the official versions, just ask away). Code:
Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157 |
No offense people, but I have to admit I'm finding all such mod soups rather complicated. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible using MMM mod. That's why pedrobas is trying so hard to put everything what is needed into one big pack. My soup looks as below:
MMM p0 - Grossdeutscher Rundfunk MMM v0.5 Base Mod All In One MMM patch for OHII v1.8 No magic skills v1.5 MMM v0.5 compatible Date & Renown Cost sobers bad weather deck gun V1 SH5 Shadow Improvement ModLR sobers best ever waves V2 SH5 sobers rusty deck pack SH5 Dark_Interior_V1 sobers multi color mod V2 Kriegsmarine Grid Map for MO and TDW UIs by stoianm No Umark |

Thanks for the suggestion man, I'm going to try this. I re-installed again... I will give this one more shot, it's turned into an obsession to get this right. (Pisses me off so bad that I had this working pretty damn well yesterday, but then got greedy and wanted it just a little better....and kaput.) |
Alright, I'm about to call it quits.
I installed the MMM and a few other optionals on your list, (like the no magic tricks) I went back to the bunker and NOTHING!!! lol. Sooooo frustrating. At least it's not crashing or giving me a screenfull of jumbled mess like last time, but that's cold comfort. Any ideas why I'm not getting anything here? I really did everything by the numbers, and it looks like the MMM is pretty much foolproof... DAMN. |
