Lost sea walls at Wilemshaven? d3d antilag to blame or OHII?

Hey all,

I recently loaded the d3dantilag and have now lost the seawalls all around Wilemshaven port (not sure about others as I didnt check).

At the same time I unloaded all my mods and reloaded to load TDWs UI 6.8.0.

I did all this in port.

My mods are (in this order):

NewUIs_TDC_6_8_0_ByTheDarkWraith
TheDarkWraith_DC_Water Disturbances_v2_0_SH5
Open Horizons II_Full v1.2
OHII and Light Campaign Radio Messages v3
OHII fixed Sound v1.3
TDW_Mines_Subnets_Spottable (OH IIv1.2)
Critical Hits 1.1 Torpedos
Stoianm pitch&roll for SH5 V1 (Normal)
NewUIs_TDC_6_8_0_alt_officer_wounded_by_Torpedo
Grossdeutscher Rundfunk

Any ideas why the walls went bye bye? I stupid me didnt save my d3d.dll .... please dont tell me I have to reload SH5 :damn:

Ok, well I doubt very much it was anything to do with the antilag.dll, much more likely to be a mod install error.

Looking at your list you're using fixed sound for OHII v1.3 over the main OHII v.1.2 - could be that.

Could also try moving NewUIs_TDC_6_8_0_alt_officer_wounded_by_Torpedo and installing it directly after New UIs.

This is just speculation though - it might not be either of the above. I don't know if OHII v1.2 & v1.3 are compatible, or if moving alt officer wounded will help. One thing that was suggested to me a while back is that when installing mods, if JSGME says 'not responding' during the install, remove the mod and reinstall until the 'not responding' doesn't happen.

Otherwise it might be a full reinstall, sorry! Maybe others will help too :salute:

Thanks Oprheus... didnt get any mod error messages when installing. Except for the expected warnings (this file was modified by xxxxxxx) when installing OHII and the files it overwrites of TDWs.

Actually that sound mod was to fix the lack of internal engine sounds with OH II v1.2 (not sure why he named it V1.3)

I will try as you suggest, and maybe go ahead and upgrade to OH II v1.3 that I see is out now.

EDIT: Downloaded OHII v1.3 and tried what you suggested for mod order...still no walls.

Any other ideas Modders?

See this for the missing harbours-

First of all, the patch "readme" is wrong.
The 3GB switch won't do anything performance-wise. It will just avoid errors and crashes when SH5 runs out of "memory" (addressing space actually).
And it will only matter for 32 bit systems.

Even though you only have 2GB RAM, the 3GB switch refers to _virtual memory_, not physical memory. So you can enable the 3GB switch even with 1 GB of RAM, it will help.

If you have windows vista/7, the more video RAM you have, the more your harbors will disappear ! (as paradoxical as it can be....)
That's because the video card memory uses the same 2GB of virtual memory as the game uses, so you will have less memory for the game.

As a conclusion, this will only avoid errors/crashes, and only works on 32bit systems (with more positive impact for vista/win7 uses).

Missing harbours have been an issue with the game when users add mods. The above post by one of the devs explain this.

With your mod list you should try OHII base only (or go the 3GB switch route).
With OHII base you will only take away the enviromental layer and new ships.
The enviro layer are mines/nets/dolphins/icebergs - so not too much to lose (scapa mission only will be easier)
Removing the new ships will not mean there are less ships to hunt - just none of the modded ones. Traffic will be the same.

Hummm...I find it strange though that I have run 4 patrols with OH II v1.2 and TDWs UI mod (6.7.x) and have not had this happen before.

Then I loaded TDWs newst UI 6.8.0 and the anitlag and all of a sudden the port walls have disappeared.

So you think this is a lag of memory (you are correct in that Im running WinXP 32 bit, with 2GB RAM and a 1GB Nvidia GTS 450 card).

Thanks for the suggestions...I will have to try them (but I will miss the added ships and such).

Your mod list is very light (compared to some I have seen) so I think it must be the extras in OHII causing the issue:hmmm:

You could try using one of the addons - new ships v enviro

I'll go the minimalist approach and jsut try the Base (light) OHII and see if that fixes the issue. The OHII full was a bit much for my system anyway. I couldnt get near the Scapa harbor with anything more than 32x TC without my system slowing WAY down. And I was having CTD issues if I approached Wilemshaven in anything more tha 128x TC.

I need to build a new PC..but that is a few months away.

Will let you know results. AND THANKS :yeah: for your help!

It was about a year ago I started having the same issues as you discribe.
Started with harbour walls, then ctds and finally whiteout screens.
I had vista 32bit and did not want to remove any mods I had.

So I bought a new system, 64bit win7 and a beefy rig.
i have had no problems since.

Faamecanic 09-18-11 02:41 PM

Ok that helped A LOT. Just loaded the BASE OH II v1.3 and I have my seawalls back :woot:

But as I was leaving Wilemshaven, the lighthouse would blink in and out. It would be there if I didnt look directly at it, but would disapper if I did. So I suspect you are correct. It is a memory issue with my machine.

Looks like I will have to wait to enable all your (and fellow contributing modders) goodies until I can upgrade to a 64 bit system and get a few more gigs of RAM.

Meantime I will look into that 3GB switch you were talking about...

thanks again for your help!

Stormfly 09-18-11 06:18 PM

even with 3gb switch enabled and no mods at all, this can still happen for 32bit OS users... also depending from what harbor you start.

...there is a simple solution for that problem, simply save the game after you enter your boat first time in the bunker, restart the game and load that saved game.

Faamecanic 09-18-11 08:14 PM

Ahhh I will have to try that stormfly.... yet more bugs :damn: from UBI...sigh.

Oh and when I left port (using the BAse OHII) I had seawalls as stated above (with the David Copperfield disappearing lighthouse)... but after I finished my Patrol... seawalls gone again.

BUt I have a feeling my graphics and memory took a high toll, on this patrol that lasted only 4 days...I encountered a unescorted convoy just off the east coast of england... I went thru them like a hot knife thru butter. All told....12 ships sunk for 115,000 tons ...lol. Kretschmer eat your heart out :). It WAS a 15 ship convoy.... 3 were left...

Jester_UK 09-19-11 02:27 AM

Using OH II full version 1.2 and 1.3 I have found that, if you save your game, exit to main menu and restart immediately after "boarding" your U-Boat in the bunker, the missing harbour walls and buildings return.

From the notes on the first page of OH2
If for any reason after accepting a mission in the bunker and ask permission to leave dock you find yourself teleported on sub without having a loading screen, make sure you end patrol/doc and accept the mission again. Its very important to have a loading screen when leaving the bunker, or the game will fail to load properly the game layer and weird stuff can happen, including crash.

Exactly, Sober. Also some icons do not work propper:salute:.

Re. the problem of walls disappearing discussed below:
I can confirm with 200% it is a lack of memory that cause this troubles. I had the same problems, when pen, piers, cranes and etc. were disappearing ufter loading:yep:. Also the 'white field' - artefact of obs. scop view. NewUI's of v.6.7.0-6.8.0 earning lot of memory as TDW has posted somewhere before, so the modlist may be not too long to cause this problems:salute:.

Not getting a loading screen is never an issue...

I will try the loading, saving, reloading and see if this helps...but I do fear it is a memory issue. Hopefully in the next 3 months I will have the scratch to upgrade my PC, and get Win7 64bit. But until then Im stuck with disappearing walls, and such. No big deal as its only the first 5 min of each voyage, and last 5 min...
