Question: Radio intercepts in campaign mode..

....Oct. 1939; U-4, a type II-A canoe is tracking a target somewhere off the coast of Norway when the radio operator reports a new intercept. Its U-45 reporting a convoy contact some 1500 odd NM away from our position: time 07:58.

At 09:02 new radio message intercept: an S.O.S. call from one of the freighters in the position earlier reported by U-45. someone's on duty!
At 09:07 and 09:11: two (2) more S.O.S. from sinking freighters. Good Job!

Here's the question:

Are the messages intercepted by the radio operator part of the campaign at sea, in real game time?

or

Are the messages simply part of a script designed to give the impression that we are not alone in the developing campaign?

I was wondering if I would have witnessed the attack if I had been within visual and/or audio range of the action at U-45's location?

SOS calls are strictly for immersion. Same with anything containing latitude and longitude. The only calls that are actual game events are those containing (map) grid coordinates.

K Thanks.

I'm running the game with GWX 3.0

Following your response something else came up.

 Can we lure other A.I. boats on our contacts and form wolfpacks at sea?

Not at present but there is a project underway to try and implement in-game wolfpacks. We'll have to wait and see how successful it'll be, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :yep:

It would be great if it is true what you say. I have not examined the topic of SH3 for quite a while. Where can I see the details on that? :hmmm:

I thought it was the most interesting aspect of the Aces of the Deep dynamic campaign!

IMO SH3 with GWX is probably the closest anyone has been to replicating the realism of a U-Boat at war since AOD.

(1) There's a need to enhance the Depth Charge realism so that different depth affect efficiency.
(2) Wolfpack tactics was at the heart of U-Boat operations and MUST
be included. Mind you i'm not a modder, just a downloader:O: hope someone develops it one day, that would be beautifull:sunny:

Great game, great site, great mods! :salute:

Agreed, I loved AOD as well and I have to say GWX is the next best thing. :03:

No, but I believe you are supposed to be able to summon Luftwaffe elements if you are in range of an airbase. Never been able to verify that in game though.

Though the Norwegian campaign is "off the grid", so the Lat/Long messages for that are accurate.

The same applies to surface units provided you are within visual contact/range when you send your report and (as with the Lufwaffe) they are within range of said contact.

If you ever want to cut down on the number of radio messages and know that whatever you receive is scripted into the game (approx 288 messages IIRC) then you should use this (for GWX).
