Sea "Coll-regs" Question for skippers...
The "international regulations for preventing a collision at sea" or "rules of the road"
Has anyone noticed that the GWX3 ships or stock sh3 ships follow these rules.... I know the GWX3 ones do, as I had one episode where I was stand-on vessel when checking out Kristiansand I had a german destroyer coming out of harbour (to probably check on what he had seen on his radar). He clearly altered course to port a little and went across my bow and proceeded down my star-board side... I'm not moaning but IF I'm correct (he was showing his starboard side at me) and he WAS indeed "Give-Way" vessel, shouldn't he have altered course to starboard and gone down my port (left) side?? :hmmm: |
The destroyers seem to follow Rules Of Seniority and The Law Of Tonnage.
The Schnellboats seem to do likewise (at least we outrank, and outsize, some-one). The merchants could all be renamed Kamikaze Maru, and seem to lean toward The Law Of Tonnage, unless they encounter a destroyer, whom they always show respect. The auxilaries seem to always be drunk. If you attempt a proper port to port passage with some of these folks they'll try forcing you onto the beach (en.sp.). Made friends with a destroyer CO. When he tryed circling me from starboard aft I hit Flank Speed and hugged the coast. As he tryed using his superior speed to pass on my port side I followed the shoreline which curved right. (I had remembered getting cut off following a similar move after a previouse patrol). Now when I come back from patrols we have races! Now I always look forward to seeing this guy. |
I had the same situation, but it was the second time returning to port with this guy. My deck gun crew got real friendly with their bridge.

I'm pretty sure that all AI ships have collision avoidance, and the only rule they follow is to avoid a collision at all costs. This includes heavy, low-powered merchants stopping on a dime and reversing course, and destroyers turning in whatever direction the shore is so they can run aground.

They will sometimes go into astern propulsion if you get too close :rotfl2:from behind
