Bad Memory
 

I have two suspect RAM sticks of DDR2,2GB on each stick,is it ok to test them by putting 1 stick at a time in my puter in the first RAM slot on my board:hmmm:
I know on of them is causing BSOD,just not sure which one:06:

can your computer even turn on?
tried memory testing software yet?
of course, if that don't work you can try unplugging 1 of them to test the other

Was just wondering if it will damage the board,only running the one stick in slot one:06: would make easier to narrow down which stick is flaky:hmmm:
strange thing is they don't BSOD straight away,they can be on for an hour before it happens:damn:

Could be an overheating (faulty design if that), or just an address that doesn't get used till later.

If it boots with one stick, then definitely switch them out to see which ones fail.

But do as tyrant said too, get some software to scan the sticks.

Well its booted with the one stick,now to find out which it is:hmmm:

Try checking the memory with some bootable memory test software.
Some times the memory fault can be at an adress rearly used by windows so hard to pinpoint.
Also check your cooling fans and correct placment of the CPU cooling block.

Well this is strange,both sticks tested,and both are fine:hmmm:
sticks 1+2 work together fine,insert sticks 3+4 in as well,BSOD:06:
Sticks 3+4 work fine on their own,but BSOD when together:damn:
Im at a loss as to what is causing this:doh:
Im using Windows7 Ultimate 64Bit by the way,if anybody has any ideas please chip in cause I'm flat out of ideas:oops:
The MB is a ASRock K10N78 which supports upto 8GB's so no problems there:06:

Are both sticks of the same type and brand?
If not thats propably the reason.
You may also try to tweak memory though bios on your own risk.

1. Reset BIOS (not sure if K10N78 has a button, otherwise use jumper)

- still BSOD? Then...

2. Get Micrososft Diag MemTest: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
3. Run test with only one stick at the time

If all sticks run the test without errors, it's most likely your onboard memory controller gone lost.

Think I've isolated it to one stick that flakes out when put under pressure,multiple tasks and stuff,will use Memtest on the other sticks to make sure:hmmm:
