Kaleun pronunciation?
For some reason i really like this word, and would like to be able to say it correctly. Anybody got any help here?
This game is making me want to learn German! :lurk: |
caloin - while you say the 'ca' like in the british pronounciation of "can't"
A good way to learn it is also to get the "Das Boot" DVD edition with german and english audio. ;) Cheers from Germany :salute: |
"Ka" as in "captain"
"leun" as in "loin" |

In theory it should be "ka" as in the German word Kapitän but that doesn't help much if you're unfamiliar with German to begin with. :O: @ Gargamel: I concur that the easiest way to learn it is just to watch Das Boot with the original German dialogue, you will hear "Herr Kaleun" so much you'll have it down in no time. :yep: Or, um, just select German voices in your game? Your crew will say "Jawohl, Herr Kaleun" every time you give an order. Unless you've modded that out. Alternately you could look in your game folder for the speech files and find the right one and just play it over and over. |
Change the game settings to German audio, English text - I thought that worked? I could be wrong, usually am :yep:

That and 'Schiff gesichtet!', grrrrr!:nope:
|
"Schiff gesichtet!"
"Ja, I see it. That'll be our escort." "Schiff gesichtet!" "Right you are, my lad." "Schiff gesichtet!" "That's still our escort, Bernard." "Schiff gesichtet!" "And I'm pretty sure that's the Tirpitz, son. I've seen pictures." "Schiff gesichtet!" "Ja, ja, there are a lot of ships in the harbor today. They're our ships, Bernard. As long as you're not at the helm, I'm not that worried about them. Understood?" "Jawohl, Herr Kaleun! "Excellent. I must say, this is a beautiful day for a homeco--" "Schiff gesichtet!" "Shut UP, Bernard!" |

One of the odd things I've noticed is that, while the WO is spotting the same ships over and over, the rest of the crew don't say anything anymore. It was kind of fun in the stock game hearing two of three crewmen calling out a sighting, then having the officer give the details. |
