Hatch riveted shut
So, I decided to fire up the Bismarck single mission and was having a swell time. I managed to locate and get in close enough to the Nelson to put four fish into her. She cruised along for a while down by the bows and finally plowed under the waves for a confirmed kill. Hooray! :arrgh!:
But after my success, I know that another British battleship is still lurking out there so I'd better surface and have a look at that distant sound contact if I'm going to save the Bismarck. I'm in the control room, order us up and head up the ladder only to find the bridge hatch still securely closed and not budging one inch. "Hmm, that is strange" I think to myself. Perhaps Bernard is on watch and is standing on the hatch. After ordering another surface, another dive to periscope depth, and another surface, the hatch is still riveted in place and not moving. I head aft and find the diesels running, so I know at least part of the boat is on the surface. The external camera reveals my watch crew up on the bridge pointing and gesturing, but I can't get the hatch open to join them. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I fire up the Kriegsmarine Standard Issue Teleporter for U-Boat Captains. Shift-U takes me to the bridge! Success! Ah, but the hatch is still riveted shut, so now I can't get below to dive the boat. :damn: At this point I know my single mission is toast. I head towards the sound contact, and find myself able to make an easy approach on a British battleship- on the surface! We lasted a long enough to launch torpedoes, but not long enough to see if any hit. :D |
Try some WD-40... :O:

Are you using any mods?

Very high seas shuts the hatch. This might be the case here. It has happend to me several times. I've even got stuck between the hatch and the ladder due to this.
In the Bismarck mission the weather is quite bad if i remember it correctly? |

I've had it happen to me in bad weather too. |
I actually dont mind the idea , maybe think twice before going topside in bad weather .

I know that one of the Mods (can't remember which) changes the "Surfaced" depth to 8 meters, which is too deep to open the hatch. I just click on the depth to get it to 6 meters and I am good.

I'm using a few mods, and yes, the weather is bad on the Bismarck mission. Could be related to one of the wave mods, I can't remember exactly which one I've got running at the moment, I'll have to check it, but that could be a factor.
Also, the hatch got glued shut after the "Mission success" screen popped up and I chose "Return to game" instead of quitting. So there is also the possibility that the game got confused about my sub state after that. No real harm done though, it was just a single mission. I am wondering if that happened during a campaign if saving and reloading would fix it, or if you'd be stuck on the surface. |

I have found that even 7 m is deep enough to have hatch issues, and I have what ever mod makes it sort of a PIA. but easy fix is to just use the advanced depth controls, and command a depth of 5 or 6 m personally I think the hatch auto closes at too shallow a depth, not that I wanna walk around under water but even at "decks awash" one should be able to open the outer conning tower hatch to get below vs, the silly thing of having to totally surface and then re dive because one can't get the silly hatch open to get below.

I also checked and I'm using Hansolo's improved waves and roll and pitch mod. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164290 Could be a factor, although I've only experienced it the one time. :hmmm: |
