Carrier playable?
is it me or does no one want to try doing a playable aircraft carrier. i find my self bored because i have to play with is three surface ships.
uss iowa uss montana uss north carolina it seems to me that eveyone has forgotten. hms hood, uss missouri. uss enterprise, uss arizona, and more. i would like to see these ships sail once again as a tribute to the brave sailors who never made it that day. i would like to try doing my own ship but i have no experience what so ever. if anyone has the experience please let me know, as i will do anything i can to help |
I could make the HMS Hood.

Well playing with a carrier may sound good but you said you get bored with the iowa...You can't control the aircrafts so besides that what more value has it to offer then a destroyer?
Don't get me wrong i would love to play with the nimitz just for the look and feel of it. But it would be a huge bummer that the aircrafts sit on the deck and do nothing while i'm attacked.. |
Why don't you try reading this thread to find out why.

It would be possible to create Kamikaze planes for a Japanese carrier mod, using an invisible weapons node with aircraft as the object sprite. However, I don't think normal flight operations would be possible (unless the player unit can spawn airgroups - I am not sure about this).
|
Even with airgroups the planes will only work withing render ranges.
If the silly "airgroup" paradigm worked in MP such that you'd have random air encounters within the airgroup range, that would also be silly and broken since the attacks would be continuous instead of discrete attacks by strike groups. CVs in SH are plain old silly, sadly. |

It's very unfortunate. Even "US Navy Fighters" from the mid-1990's had actual aircraft taking off and landing from carriers, but more than a decade later they seem to act like it's too much effort to include. |
thanks for the insight. and the hood would be a great addition to the game if you would actually like to begin work on it. i cant do much but maybe i can find some info for weapons and armour values. speed and what not.....i'm good at stuff like that atleast

i must point out that this mod will be in memory of ted briggs, and the other two survivors of the hms hood sinking.
we need someone experienced with campaign missions so that we can recreate the life and service of the hms hood up untill the date of her sinking |

thank you.
i have a service record and an all refit info if you need them, being a british citizen helps lol. also i was wondering about possibly doing this texture. i'll send it to you via pm due to not being able to post for some reason. |
The refit info would be nice. Have thought of a hypothetical refit of the Hood, kinda like the refit for the Renown.
|
heres the refit info from 1920 - 1939, i'll add in two links
first - http://www.hmshood.com/history/construct/repair42.htm that is the refit that was cancelled due to the declorartion of war on germany and some other countries. second - http://www.hmshood.com/ship/index.htm this gives you the statistics for the armorment and related systems such as radar anti- aircraft torpedoes deck guns and more |
