Submerged enemy subs.

I just finished chasing around a sound contact for a long time. It was either submerged or a bug.

At the hydrophone station it was just barely audible. If I tried to go faster than 1/3rd I couldn't hear it over the engine. I'm playing on a Dell M1730 which is a laptop so the speakers aren't the best and no head phones were available.

It was hard as hell to follow. The black contact line would never get longer than about 2000 meters and I kept loosing contact, I'm sure that I got to within a couple hundred meters of it at one point tho. I couldn't track it at all on the surface because I am using the no hydrophone on surface mod. It's just by luck that I noticed it in the first place.

I never did find find out what it was, I was in deep water and if it was very deep it was too dark to see with external free view. I have next/previous view keys mapped to shift+< and shift+>, but they cause an issue where I cannot get my 1st person view back so I was afraid to try that.

Eventually I lost contact.

I only made one save and that was just before I lost the contact :damn:. When I reload it I haven't been able to find it, it isn't where it was when I saved anyway.

Anyone else have this experience?

Is at a bug or sub?

Is it even possible that it was a sub?

Cdr

Ive seen two on the map with contacts on and sunk one with the ol trusty 88
it was submerged and i very nearly ran into it, then it came up n i blasted it.
the 3 torps i sent into it at varing depths from nearest to surface, middle range and deepest didnt hit it. I believe it said something like c class uboat.

There is one type of english submarine modelled into the game that usually runs on the surface unless spotted.

A bug however prevents you from getting any credit or recognition from sinking it.

But if you look in the musium, you will see that quite a few nations have the same british sub :06:

It's the same with several other 3d models. They get recycled with different nations. SH5 has probably even less ships variety than SH3 and SH4.

Yeah....if you get a sound contact you cant see its most likely a enemy sub.

That happend to me....

If you are using external cam, one can peek at whats at the end of the sonar track. I know its cheating but good way to actually get a visual on any mystery objects or (USOs) unidentified submerged objects.

There is a bug, where enemy contacts follow your every move so you can never intercept them. Someone posted a vid on youtube showing this.
He was able to use the bug to make them steam straight into an island:har:

I got credit for sinking U class submarine 540 tons. Twice actually. No bug for me.
