Can the crew actually die?

I was wondering when reading neals preview. Can your crew actually die?
Since the crew now has personallity,s and stuff how could we replace them unless there would be more characters which (to my knowlege) or not there. Or maybe just the uncontrolleble crew members can get killed?

nice question...

indeed. i guees: no...and if so..the crew "plops away" if she dies, like the new torps simply "plop in"...

:D

I hope I'm wrong but; I got a hunch they don't die.

Because can you have your navigation officer, change in for your watch officer or torpedo officer?? All these positions seem to have personnel who are permanently assigned. (All the cheesy story & rpg elements that go with them)

Perhaps the model/looks/background story might be modded in, but barring the mods, the game is designed as it is and how would they make it work if the cook dies (in a flooding situation) or the watch officer is shot? Then do they get replaced back at port?

No previews mention anything about recruiting new personnel at port or anything like that, so this is one of those unknowns but likely a negative feature of the game.. :-?

I don't see how. There's no evidence there are new RPG avatars waiting in the wings to take their place or anything if they do. Which further begs the question. Can any crew member die on board like they did sometimes in SH3? :hmmm:

That`s kinda crappy if they can`t die. what`s the point of all that immersion if you as captain don`t have to deal with the problem of trying to get a boat with 2\3rds crew to work? Ok, so with less crew your boat will work less efficently and the best plan to get home asap but it all should be in.

Also, do the crew characters ever change? Can you get rid of some crew and assign new ones at base?

I personally don`t mind the RPG crew elements because one of my biggest gripes of the SH games was that they were too sterile. All you had was this mechanical boat and all the crew were mechanical too. This rpg element adds the Human side.

Now some say `this is a simiulation`. Yes, it`s a simulation and it`s simulating the real thing. In the real thing a captain`s job was not just sinking ships but dealing with his men every day and keeping up morale, etc. You can`t have a sim like this and not have realistic interactions with sub crew.

Personally, I wish that crewmen could also panic and freak out and have to be sent to quarters sick, etc or maybe you could piss them off to the point that they mutiny on you or you could reward them with scnapps when they did particularly well.

Kinda moot though as i`m not buying till this DRM is removed anyway.

Because it's really not a simulation. That's pretty apparent. Bottom line: It's a SubPG, pure and simple, and specifically geared for the casual gamer. Else why have the fantasy elements incorporated in the skill set of the crew members?

There is probably extra crewmen.. with red shirts.. :yeah:

That is really an interesting question. We shall have to wait and see when final game comes out. I am very curios how they 'solved' that problem if we have the same crew every time.

:har::har::har::har: maybe as your sub is going down , the crew can be beamed back to port to man a new sub !

No, he means in the animation the torps go into the tubes and then disappear. There's a lot wrong with this game, but this just sounds like a typical animation bug, really, and hopefully can be modded/fixed.

I hope so. But if it doesn't, Diving Duck will fix it (except of course the rising flood waters will probably not care, so that will have to be fixed too).

Would be quite sensless as the boat wasn't really usable if one of the three sections was flooded. And with usable I mean just sailing to the next harbour.
