Undemocratic here at Subsim!

I started a thread here in Silent Hunter V section called "I have decided I'm leaning toward the negative side of SHV", this was since there was another called "I have decided I'm leaning toward the positive side of SHV", now without any notification they just merged them into one, turning it into one big bitching place.:nope:
If you go here to post #19 you will see what I mean, this was the opening page:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160447
It amazes me what some moderators do when they don't like other peoples opinions! Not very democratic!!:x
My thread is now null and void, just wanted to voice my opinion!!

Wouldn't this be better in a PM to the moderators of the SHV page? :hmmm:

This isnt a democracy.

Since it involved a lot of other participants I figured they had a right to respond, if I knew which moderator did it I would have sent one there as well!:yep:

There is nothing democratic about it as a private enterprise, just merging similar topics. And, I have found this forum to be well administered and fair. Just roll with it and enjoy.

@Reece

i think since there was already an "Im leaning toward the positive side..." thread

they simply merged the threads to make it less confusing for everybody.

the thread should be retitled to "I'm leaning toward the Positive/Negative side of SHV:"

i would seriously doubt that this was in any way shape or form meant as a personal attack at you or your personal opinion.

Don't want to get into an argument, But I was reading both those threads yesterday, and I noticed they were both getting responses from both sides of the argument.

The positive leaning thread kept getting negative people adding their "woe is me" posts, and the negative leaning thread kept getting these happy-go-lucky people stopping by to try and cheer everyone up.:nope:

I remember thinking to myself that either:

A)People need to post only in the thread that describes how they feel, or

B)These two threads should be merged 'cause everyone's just bickering back and forth, and saying the same thing on both threads.

Besides, I'm pretty sure that Subsim ain't no democracy, lol. It's Neal's house. We're just guests.

P.S. If it makes you feel any better, I'm right there with ya on the negative side. Just wish those happy-go-lucky people would've stayed in their own thread:nope:

LOL soo true...

I just cant get over the drama in the sh5 section.

Oberon 01-20-10 08:52 PM

Perhaps so, but that is their decision to make, bringing it all up in public like this only serves to create discord. Such disagreements are best consulted in private where explanations can be given.
One has to bear in mind that there are a lot of threads popping up in the SHV forum and most of them are about the same thing or just rehashing old information over and over again with a different perspective on it. Particularly now the divisive facts have been released and the battlelines are already being drawn. There's going to be flaming, probably some brig time and no doubt one or two keelhaulings if there hasn't been already, as we get nearer to the release date. Some people do get rather animated over it.
Anyway, back to my point, my point is that the mods in the SHV forum have their work cut out for them to stop it being overrun with thousands of topics all complaining about the fact that there's only going to be one type of uboat, or that the game will only go up to '43, and as Rivet said, someone else started a thread looking at the positive aspects, so yours was merged into that thread, rather tidily by the looks of it and a poll option was added. It all looks rather neat and tidy and has one thread instead of two or three.
After all, I don't know about anyone else here but the forum has been creaking a lot lately, for most of today I couldn't even access it, and I know i'm not alone because Hunter, Schroeder, Raptor and Task Force had the same problems. Now, if too many topics are posted, surely that would increase the load on the bandwidth.
In fact, tbh, I think the old Dead cat topic should probably be either deleted or achived, just in case.
Thus, if there are ways that things can be streamlined then it is better for the forum both on the eyesight, on the moderator workload, and on the server workload.
:yeah:

Better than the converse. :damn:

If you have a problem with a moderator's decision it is better to
privately contact the moderator or another moderator about it, rather
than bitching in public.
