Duke Nukem delayed forever

Article delving into the "why" of the game never going gold. It was so close, several times, only to be held back for a couple more tweaks, a few more changes. How a combination of perfectionism and simply having too much money killed what could have been great:

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/1...ke_nukem/all/1

Aparently a completed (though perhaps rough around the edges) copy was shown to Take-Two, their publisher. It fell through when 3DR asked for more money and not all of it was granted. A complete, much anticipated title, that was shaping up to be, perhaps, one of the best... down the drain 'cause the 20 million they blew on it wasn't enough.

So close... what a damn shame. :nope:

I'm afraid BoB:SoW will have the same fate. Oleg's a perfectionist. :O:

Old news mate. Heard about Duke's fate months ago.

Arclight 12-23-09 01:41 AM

Sure, but did you know the story behind it? :06:

papa_smurf 12-24-09 01:29 PM

It will, when hell freezes over......:nope:

Thanks for posting this. Sad reading.

so they wasted 20million :o. Need someone like EA to pick it up and get it out. I know EA are :nope: but the game might get out with them.

Take Two is suing for the code and IP. They already have a demo version that was more or less complete. If Take Two wins, they might release the game, but since these cases usually drar on forever it's gonna be dated by that time (again).

There's an old saying in the manufacturing world that goes something like this:

"There comes a time when you have to shoot the engineers and start production."

Or as Voltaire said: "The perfect is the enemy of the good."

This is never gonna end.

There may be hope yet for the ludicrously long-in-the-making Duke Nukem Forever. Sources claiming to have knowledge of the situation tell Kotaku that Duke Nukem Forever development continues at a new home, Borderlands developer Gearbox Software.

People have lost interest in it already, better just leave it be.

Not only that, I would figure that it ends up in a big dissapointment too.

True that. It would have to do something revolutional to the genre to be a success. So many games have been made since DN3D that carry the same exact concept.

At least Daikatana was released.

It's total ****, yes, but not a waste. C'mon, what's better, to eat and take a dump or to eat and hold it, hold it, hoooold it forever until you die of ****-holding by having the **** become as solid as yourself? **** is meant to be expelled. Just put it out already, no matter the state, put it out or die.

Shame though, Duke Nukem was great fun.
