gyro & persicope question

Hello Captains,

I have a question which I don't seem to be able to find answered anywhere.

In SH3 (and in SH4 U-Boot expansion on German boats which I bought today and installed) the periscope movement is linked to gyroangle readout; so you can quickly fire to direction where you aim the scope. In SH4, US subs don't have the gyro linked - is it a historical detail, or is it by design of the SH4 game?

I like the gyro linked to scope for those moments when I need quick firing solution at short distance for instance (..I usually aim slightly in front of moving target's bow and easily score a hit without need to input speed, AOB and distance). In SH4, in such a short distance - short decision time situations, I aim with the whole boat (with scope reset to zero bearing..takes however much longer to rotate the whole sub then to rotate the scope though..

Am I missing something? Thanks for info.

Historical detail, if I'm not mistaking. :hmmm:

You'll find that the U-boots require (or allow for) different tactics than the fleetboats. :yep:

thanks for reply; at least now I know I'm not overlooking something... looking forward for SH5 - the scope linked gyroangle should be back again - just like it works in SH3 and SH4 U-boot Expansion

Yes that is correct. In the later us fleet boats there was a button to send the bearing to the TDC from the TBT, but no constant link between them. In earlier fleet boats there was not even TBT, so the bearing was set manually in the TDC by its operator, after the captain called "Mark" and the assitant called the bearing he readed in the graded scale.
