SH2 Revisited

Sorry, can you move this to classic - SH2 - thanks

I recently made a small contribution to the forum and in reply received some links back to SH2 Pacific Aces. Strange I thought, surely thats all dead and buried now?

Then thought, why not install it on my XP SP2 laptop and I can play it now and then. Ah, all those installation headaches came flooding back!! The black screen which only a 3 finger salute will remove, the script error message boxes popping up when try and run any scenario!!

So I installed:

SH2
Pacific Aces RC4
PA patch 1.1
PA patch glitch fix

- didnt work so then installed

SubSim HiResComb_11SP1.exe

so, anything missing/wrong?

Hrm no idea been so long.

Will it even run on xp? or does it need a dos box?

It runs on XP no problem. Just make sure you install the 1.1 patch i think it is for SH2. That patch makes it XP compatible.

Is that the SH2 patch 1.1 or Pacific Aces patch 1.1? I had already installed the latter ?

Buddahaid 07-13-09 03:21 PM

It does not always run on Xp depending on your system. Mine will not run after I upgraded my video card, well it runs, but with corrupt text. DC would not even install after the upgrade. I haven't tried to reinstall SH2 to know, but I would assume if the installer runs OK, your good. The black screen is the blanker which you can stop with Ctl-F4, or Alt-F4 oops.

SH2 even runs on Windows 7 but you have a super fast mouse in game.

think I may have to start again:

I have installed SH patch as above but get to mission loading and get this:

Tue Jan 29 11:46:56 2002
Error -1 (m_boundinfbox.m_rxmin < -100000.0f]
Directx code "unrecognised error : )xffffffff"
F:\Devel\Janus2\Portable\Sources\RNcode.cpp
Line 205

Dix X is up to date by the way

Oh yeah, and the dreaded blank screen is back!!!

I would reccomend checking and double checking the drivers for your specific video card.

F: ??? partitioned? Portable drive? F: ???

Red Devil 07-18-09 09:08 AM

I de-installed everything, and cleared registry of any references (used a specialist prog)

Installed SH2
Installed SH2 patch 1.1
Installed Hi Res patch for SH2
Installed PA
Installed PA Patch 1.1
Installed PA weather

:yeah:

Got sunk by invisible destroyer! Which did not show up until about 100 yards off stern but was on sonar (I was on silent running)!!
Bloody weather!!!!

SteamWake 07-18-09 09:41 AM

Glad you got it running.

I dont know if I woulda gone through all that. After all I can get sunk by destroyers in the mist in sh4

Red Devil 07-18-09 10:10 AM

Back to training school I feel, get used to the retro controls again!!! I have completed several war careers in SH4 though, on my pc. Destroyers are actually more 'predictable' in SH4.
