A little advice, if you please.

Hello folks.

I got a shiny new rig a little while ago, and since it resembles the monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey, I figured I'd give SH4 a go in all it's CPU-eating graphic glory.

After cruising the Indian Ocean in a commerce raider for several months, I am all set to re-install SHIII and return home to the Atlantic.

I was pleased to see that a new edition of GWX had been released, but I also noticed a NYGM 3.0 release as well.

I was wondering if someone might be able to run down the differences between the two mods for me?

I have always played GWX 2.1 religiously, but the thought occurred to me that I have no idea what I might, or might not be, missing... as I have never tried NYGM!

A little insight would be greatly appreciated!

GWX 3 is out. Its the standard im guessing by how many people use it.

From what I've heard, NYGM is significantly harder than even GWX

In a nut shell, NYGM is not quite as graphics intensive as GWX. There are a few other differences but, that is the major one.

I only played an older version of NYGM, and only for a little bit. I've only really ever kept one install at a time, just because the loading times for GWX meant that I really never had time for more than one career at a time. (Anymore and I'd be pulling my hair out)

Does NYGM have the same load times, or are they shorter/longer etc?

They should be shorter, as NYGM doesn't have near as many different merchant models as GWX. I can't be absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure it's all those different ships that slows the loading down.

Another difference is the sinking mechanics. NYGM uses a dedicated flooding model which practically eliminates any chance of a ship blowing up and sinking 30 seconds after a torpedo hit. This means you might hang around for hours waiting for a ship to sink (or not sink). Altogether a pretty cool thing.

Agreed.....the sinking mechanics do tend to leave you pondering, although I've not yet downloaded the latest version http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif
