Gwx 3.0 Report

I decided to start out fresh in 1939 with 7th flotilla.

It's Nov now and am at BE grid just getting away from a convoy attack. Got 3 fat merchants.:D Not bad for my little VIIB boat.

One point I will make is while getting away from a Black Swan at 1kt I was slowly sinking. Had to crank her up to 3 kts to pull her up then go to 2kts and turn to throw off that pesky B. Swan. The cat and mouse game isn't over yet but, I have alot of confidence in boat and crew.

3.0 delivers and kicks butt. Thx again GWX team.

I've never been able to run 1 or 2 knots, in GWX2.1, without sinking? It doesn't seem "new" to me for 3.0? I've always had to go to 3 knots to maintain depth. Let me rephrase...after a Crash Dive command. I don't recall having this problem when I "slink" down to lower depths? I believe there are posts concerning "Crash Dive" and issues?

Not for me. 2 kts and I'm fine. 3 kts and I attract destroyers like a magnet. :p :rotfl:

Same here - 1kt slowly sink, 2kts fine, 3kts Wasserbombe magnet.

This bouyancy effect has been in for quite a while (I'm sure one of the crew will be along to tell us exactly when) and replicates the real life problems with depth keeping when moving at very slow speed.

During testing had received a little damage from some AC. But a few days later i was attacking a convoy in mid 43 in the north Atlantic. After firing my 5 eels. I went down to 200m and silent running.
I was creeping along at 1kt but i kept sinking slowly, i tried 2 kt but the same but just sunk a little slower. So i kept going at 1 kt till i hit 230m Then quickly went up to 3 kt to regain the lost depth. I kept this going for nearly 4 hours R/L time.
I was still unable to shake off the DD. So it came down to drastic measures i came up to Periscope Depth. And let lose a eel at the DD. Luckily for me i hit the bugger and managed to get away.
But it has tought me a lesson that even the smallest piece of damage can effect your Chances of survial.

Funny....

The manual still says that you will rise a few meters if you travel 2 kts or slower...:-? :hmm:

Yee-ha! Vielen Dank to the GWX Posse!

I just completed my first GWX 3.0 patrol to the North Country & Scotland (Feb. 1940). Bagged 8 ships, had some close calls with mines (I didn't see 'em until I was already past), plus a couple of miracle shots, manual via periscope -- one hit a zig-zagging freighter! I'm loving the 16 km view and I don't even mind the dark, dark nights.

And while we're enjoying this holiday season, let us not forget those less fortunate:
