Myth #1 about Fallout 3 - it has no DRM - WRONG!
My copy has SecureROM. I know this because I made an image and loaded it into Daemon Tools so that I didn't have to find the DVD to play it. Well, SecureROM raised its ugly head and said there was a conflict with Daemon Tools on my machine. Nice.
If there is any good news in all this, it is that SecureROM operates like the older versions in that it doesn't take over your machine. It just does a simple check on start-up to see if it's the original DVD. -S |
Over on the official forums, there is a lengthy thread about the DRM with Fallout 3. All in all, it is a rather benign version of SecuROM included with the game (which I don't really have a problem with). This is in stark contrast, however, to the likes of Spore, Mass Effect, and Red Alert 3 which uses the much more draconian form of it (online checks, activation limits, etc.). :x:nope::damn:

Syxx thats why I'm glad I have Mass Effect for the 360, none of that DRM bull****. Just put in the DVD and play.
Looking forward to getting my hands on Fallout 3, might buy it today. Or I might hold off and get Rock Band instead. And before you say Rock Bands been out for over a year, let me just say we Aussies can be a little slow when it comes to getting new games out on time. |

Pretty much surprise they never went the full hog in protecting Fallout3, as the game will most likely be on every gamers 'to get' list. |

question :
If according to Bethesda : "For Fallout 3’s copy protection on PC, we use the same security model as we did for Oblivion - a simple disc check. We only use SecuRom’s disc check functionality for copy protection" , why the choice of using Securom that is also known for some side effect regarding performance and compatibility ? For "simple" cd check there are way simpler copy protections that have none of those side effects, do not install "services" and drivers, and more importantly for a publisher cost a lot less than the latest Securom software contracts. Anyways, despite i was looking forward to get it one day, it is now one more game i just added to my boycott list. |

But Fallout 3 doesn't have the cursed install limit, does it?

I'd keep a more objective view there. It seems to be despised by what is essentially a small group of die-hard fans of old Fallout. That's like saying SHIII/IV are one of the most despised games in history based on what some of the staunch SHII adherents say... |

Not to invalidate anyone's arguments, but given that most of us have already read them there... can we kind of keep it out of this thread? Oh, and statistic check here: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages4/918428.asp Game has 93% rating over 13 major press reviews so far. |
