So.....the whole thing of declaring oneself to be an "Atheist Chaplain" is no longer an army shenanigan but now the real thing??

I think it was Wellington who said of the scots guards? ,"I don't know what they do to the enemy...but they frighten me".

As George Carlin said: "And the final commandment should be 'Thou Shalt Keep Thy Religion to Thyself'."
It's nobodies business other than my own what religion I am or what I believe. This is what happens when you get a Christian majority inside a country (or any religious majority, for that matter). They expect you to conform to the most popular beliefs.:shifty: Whatever happened to Freedom of Religion?:hmm: This is like gays serving in the military. Shouldn't really be all that controversial. If they are fighting for their country, then they should have a right to continue in the military. However, it's no different than how it was during World War II with the blacks. They thought that just because they were African-American, they would somehow be horrid in combat when in fact they proved to be better than most of the whites were! I always have admired the French for that. During World War I, blacks were not allowed to serve in American regiments; they handed them over to the French army. The French government wasn't racist like the American government was, either. |
SH - I'd say Americans have it pretty good for Freedom of Religion.

Meh, I prefer Germany's take on it. Everybody keeps it to themselves and nobody fights over it... because if they DO fight over it, they are hauled to jail.:yep:

This thread more or less is an update to what we had started here:

I remember back when I was in the military, we had this Captain who actually got up on his hind legs and told his troops that non-christians should not be allowed to be in the military.
Never being one to embarrass asswipes in front of their troops, several of us had a private conversation with this guy. People in leadership positions need to separate their personal feelings from their leadership persona. I guess some things have not changed much. |
Can't we just rely on the time-honored tradition of enemy fire making believers out of everyone?
|
James Madison, the "Father of the Constitution" believed that neither the congress nor the military should have chaplains at all; or at least congress should pay for them out of their own pockets.
|
Well, I guess Stonewall Jackson would be happy. He refused to fight on Sunday.
