Purchasing SH4 or sticking with SH3
I don't quite remember why I stopped playing SH3 a year or so ago, because I really enjoyed it. Nonetheless, I want to get back into it. Should I purchase SH4 (remember when it came out, seemed like a classic Ubisoft ****-up) and whatever mods/add-ons, or just reinstall SH3 + GWX 2.1?
So, if anyone out there who has played both could enlighten me... and abstract costs... just consider which one you enjoy playing more. Thanks. |
Well while I enjoy SH3 more, I love to play SH4 the games are quite a bit different, so it depends on what I am in the mood for. I would suggest buying SH4, you might find that you enjoy it more than SH3.

Personaly i have the two games...but SH3 (GWX 2.0) its all aways installed in my pc, its what i call "resident game" and give me full satisfaction to play all aways.
For now im traying to get untill the end 1945 alive...but after that i will reinstall and format my pc (its time to do it) and reinstall SH3 with the new version of the GWX 2.1 and start a new carer! :D May be my point of view, helps... |

1) Much better graphics.
2) Much better and more realistic crew management system. 3) More crew members inside, so feels more crowded. 4) Better orginization of the layers, so loading times are quite a bit faster. 5) Originally geared toward US Pacific campaign, but the u-boats are growing fast. It's set up so a complete replication of SH3 is possible with the new stuff as well All-in-all, I'd say another year and SH4 will have replaced SH3 completely. At least it looks that way to me now. 6) What RDP said. |
Cool... thanks a lot guys.

I highly recomend getting SH4 and the U_Boot missions add-on.
for several reasons. 1. Buying them shows Ubi we want more! If they don't make money? We don't get new versions. 2. It is a very cool advancement of the series! The mods for it make it even better! |
When I bought SH3,it had been out for a while,I only played it a few times when SH4 came out,and played nothing but SH4,one night that all changed,I figured I would see what mods was out there for SH3 and found that the SH3 community was thriving,so I modded it up and haven't touched sh4 since, just something about 3 that I like,I am sure I will play 4 again, but right now I am having to much fun with 3:yep:

Well I played around with SH4 for awhile when it was released but shelved it, I then purchased a copy of the U-boat missions, tried it and shelved it again, IMHO SH3 is better, not so many bugs, however it's in the wind that the GWX crew are to attack it, I will then give it another go.:yep:

I have SH4, played it for about 6 months then returned to SH3 as it has more atmosphere in my oppinion. I think Sailor Steve is right though, in a year i'd say SH4 will be the one to play but only if it has the Atlantic Theatre that SH3 currently does.
My only "big" issue with SH4 is that although the graphics are "better" they look so "comic bookish"...whereas SH3 graphics, although more clunky, seem to me to be more immersive. Its a hard one to describe to be honest but then aesthetics is a question of personal taste. I would say buy it, if only to sustain a decent sized Sub Sim market for potential developers out there. |

I was also trying SH4 with U-Boat Addon. And finally i returned to SH3,
because of some bugs in SH4 and also i found out that i dont like that American types of Submarines, in this decade i prefer the German ones and the ones that are deployed with U-Boat Addon didnt have a snorkel and when u use the mod to add an snorkel u just can run Diesels with it and u still need to surface for refreshing Air. Buggy but in a year or so i think it would be better, even when the GWX Team modifies SH4 i think that Sim will take a great step forward. |
