J'attendrai

MP3 (verses I and III only) (702 kb)

Melody: Dino Oliveri
Lyrics: Louis Poterat
1937
J'attendrai
Ton retour J'attendrai
Car l'oiseau qui s'enfuit vient chercher l'oubli
Dans son nid
Le temps passe et court
En battant tristement
Dans mon coeur si lourd
Et pourtant, j'attendrai
Ton retour
Et pourtant, j'attendrai
Ton retour Le temps passe et court
En battant tristement
Dans mon coeur si lourd
Et pourtant, j'attendrai
Ton retour

I Will Wait

I will wait
Day and night, I will always await
Your return
I will wait
For the bird that flees comes to search for love
In his nest
Time passes and runs
Beating sadly
In my heart so heavy
Even so, I will await
Your return. The wind brings me
Faraway sounds
Before my door
I listen in vain
Alas, nothing more
Nothing more comes
I will wait
Day and night, I will always await
Your return I will wait
For the bird that flees comes to search for love
In his nest
Time passes and runs
Beating sadly
In my heart so heavy
Even so, I will await
Your return.
Even so, I will await
Your return.
Time passes and runs
Beating sadly
In my heart so heavy
Even so, I will await
Your return.

Apparently Frank Sinatra is rumoured to have sung it in English in 1969 but I'm unable to trace a source.

This song was written in Italian first, the composer is Dino Olivieri and it's based on a song from the "Madame Butterfly" an opera from Puccini.
Also the singer Rina Ketty is Italian her real name was Cesarina Picchetto from Sarzana.
