[REL] Enable starting XVIII U-Boat in Career
Mar 03, 2008
JSGME ready. Simple mod to allow starting a campaign in a XVIII U-Boat. Works for 1943, 1944 and unlocks 1945 campaign, all flotillas. Still allows to start with regular IX-D2 boat as well. *** Notes: 1) This will unlock certain technologies such as advanced radar and sonar not normally available, especially in 1943 career. 2) You must start a new career to use this boat. Files affected in Silent Hunter 4 directory: \Data\UPCDataGE\UPCCampaignData\CareerStart.upc Very belated edit: I'm rather amazed this thread somehow found it's way to the first page after 2 years... Anyways FileFront link removed as it probably hasn't worked for ages now. Refer to the third post down if you really want to use this modification. That being said... I'm going to wager if you are using nearly any mod (especially the mega-mods) this simple mod won't work. I recommend only trying this on a vanilla U-Boat Missions install... and given the massive efforts in modding and improvements these newer mods bring, I'd highly recommend checking those out and leaving this one as a mod that served it's purpose when the game was still new. |
Zantham, filefront donīt seem to work:cry: Is it possible to upload to another site? Please?

Hi Rulle34, how about I just try to explain how to do it? It's very simple. Note I'm including a lot of extra details here so that most anyone should be able to follow these instructions:
First, disable any mods in JSGME. You DO use JSGME right???? Go into your Quote:

In here you are looking for a file called CareerStart.upc Copy this file to your desktop. Make sure you don't just make a shortcut. Now you need to open this file with Notepad. Double click the file, Windows might come up saying about how it doesn't know what the file is, you need to "Select the Program from a list" Once you hit OK here Windows presents you with a list of programs found on your computer. Look for Notepad, select it, then press OK. You should now have CareerStart.upc open as a text file on your screen. Select everything in there, and delete it. We are going to paste new contents in that will enable the XVIII. Once you have deleted everything from that file, copy and paste the below into it. Quote:
You can also just analyse the above file and see how it differs from yours and manually make the changes. You are looking for these lines: Quote:

Incidently, I have no idea what the "4," does. Also you can change the starting reknown for your career. Quote:

Go back into your Silent Hunter 4 directory, and finds the MODS directory. In this directory create a new folder, we'll call it XVIII Campaign Start. Now go into this folder, and create a new folder called Data. Go into your new Data folder and create a new folder called UPCDataGE. Go into the UPCDataGE folder and create a new folder called UPCCampaignData. Open up this folder, and copy your CareerStart.upc file from your desktop into this folder. Double check all your spelling for all the folder names, as well as capitilization, just to be safe. My path looks like this: Quote:
Have fun. |
@ all
I advise to not enable this careerstart! It is boring to get this sub at the beginning... And it is also frustrating to have only some months to sink ships and get a higher rank... When u want to have an new Careerstart...u have to wait for our Mediterranean+Black Sea campaign pack or Aotd's atlantic campaign pack (surreptitious advertising) |
Thanks Xantrokoles, but since it is a subject that does appear around here that indicates some people want to try the XVIII out without doing a bunch of missions in an IXD2 first. Its your choice whether to run this mod or not, but please don't try to make up other people's minds on this, I'm sure the average individual here can figure out for themselves whether adding this mod spoils their game as you say, or enhances their enjoyment of it.

Thank you Zantham.
Appreciate your efforts! |

Giving people a choice is what matters! End of story! Thanks for your mod |
For sure it is ur choice!
But I mean...when a beginner starts to play and he sees the XVIII, he choose it. With this sub he is first happy , but after when he recognizes, that he get after 3 weeks on patrol no real arward he says: this game is boring and he trows it away... And I want the community to increase;) |

XV doesn't have rear torps neither deck gun to raise couple more tons for the top killing list in comparison to IDX. So it is more challanging XV at start career that also means more fun... on XV every single torp counts more than on IDX. LOL I'm now "Wild Night in Bangkok" ... I want my Navy Dude! :( |
Thx, Zantham...nice little mod, just what the doctor ordered.
|
@Zantham, BIG THANKS.
|
Well the mod is cool, but when I start with a Type XVIII I get a completely empty ship; no crew members! Anyone know which file I need to fix to solve that problem?
|
Are you using OM? That happened to me. If you are, you may want to disable it first, use the Type XVIII for a while, then re-enable if you want.

The mod works BUT if i give the order to go start engines then they say cannot comply.
http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/k...TLESTATION.jpg Notice that the green bars are empty !! That's why they don't do anything. But when i press the button ' all men to battlestation ' , then they finally start working .. :shifty: Anyone that can help me because i would love to play with this sub but i just can't let my crew work for 24/7. They would desperadly fall asleep... Cheers |
