Fuel leak explained

Fuel tank damage,or limited range due to fuel,is in fact battery damage.

Posted Thu December 27 2007 13:31The mechanics of range vs speed is limited by the game engine really. You could for instance, change the numbers in the sub file to be 15,000 NM @ 12 kts. or even 14 kts. (which was probably "2 engine speed")

Now there is ONE bug that I know of that can reduce your range if your not observant. If your batteries get damaged, the game wont automatically turn off recharge mode when the charge is complete. If your not observant and don't catch this, you'll swear you have a fuel leak or something.
So turn charging off on damaged batteries charging. Too get more range. I did not catch this,or we would have made Midway, the only indicator is the battries won't take a full charge,& the damage screen shows no battery damage.

Say what ! Everyone knew this ?

& here,I thought it was a good find:oops:

It is. Very useful.

I've been saying this every time someone complains about the fuel leak and it's been ignored so far, so it's nice to see someone bring it up again

Aye maties, keep a sharp eye on that battery meter ...

If'n ya'll be chargin batteries for longer than a day, you've likely got battery damage. They will only charge to a certain percentage, but since they never reach full charge the AI doesn't know enough to turn the chargers off.

Always check! :arrgh!:

Thank you gentlemen for posting (and re-posting) this. I had just never noticed mention of it.
I wonder if this effect figures in to some of the, "I'm 500 nm short of Midway and out of gas" threads. :hmm:

I agree it's a good idea to help players be more aware of the battery. This and not turning back while they still have the fuel remaining they used to get to where they are.

Also I found out

Range @ current speed,& range to end works correctly with battery charging off.:up:If you can't get 100% charge, you will get error.

You bet,Capt.Old Dog

We loaded the old save,& made it to Midway:up:

Useful tip, thanks.
So in a nutshell, if batteries are damaged (indicated by not reaching 100% charge over many hours or days) the workaround in-game is to turn off battery charging to achieve max fuel efficiency?

That would be correct 09 ... always be a checkin the battery meter!
Shut down the charging if you don't gain any battery after a day or two.

They're just bluffing!

Sometimes people don't respond because they've just been caught with their pants down around their knees and didn't realize it until you called their attention to it. It takes a few moments to resume a respectable aspect.

But embarrassment aside, you're onto something even more common than the holed fuel tank problem. Those guys smiling over there in the corner pretending they knew all this? Yeah, they were standing around with their pants down showing off those bright red bikini underwear their wives make 'em wear.

That was real stylish, guys! Hope your crews didn't notice or it's gonna be a real long cruise!:88)

Thanks Donut - I just discovered this last night. Had a running gun duel w/ 4 Marus, took some damage but sank all three. My navigator reported I had plenty of fuel left to make it back to Pearl, but we didn't even make it within 1,000nm of Midway. Found your post this morning - knew my batteries had been damaged, but wish I had thought to check the recharge :damn:

Wilcke 01-17-08 11:13 AM

...what no proper damage reports...what kind of crew do I have?:rotfl:
