does that work with GWX 1.03?

Heibges 07-22-07 05:06 PM

Yes, it is compatible with all mods because it does not overwrite the entire file, just the values being changed.

GoldenRivet 07-22-07 05:20 PM

thanks for the link! i cant stand it when im in an IXC and the entire voyage is raining and rough seas... i seriously doubt that these boats ran across storms that hung in there for 50 - 60 days and spanned 11,000 KM. but what do i know?

CapZap1970 07-22-07 06:47 PM

Thanks a lot for the link!!!
However, I have a question... This mod should be installed when in port or can I do it mid-patrol? Thanks again!!

as a general rule of thumb - i would think NEVER install any mod mid patrol.

NEVER install any mod mid patrol.:nope:

BTW every time you save your patrol you reset the weather change probability counter meaning at least another two days of the same type of weather. I agree the SHIII weather is crappily modelled but it helps if you understand how it works. This rule applies even with the weather mod.

There are also records of hurricanes lasting up to 28 days so with the build up and aftermath it could be conceiveable to have nearly 50 days of bad weather albeit highly unusual:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurrica...ger_%281971%29

Its the weather you can't change it.

if you are talking about SH3 Weather, this is not a mod but an external program, so no reason why it should be installed in port only...

Strange, my last patrol was no wind, calm seas for just about the whole thing, a month at sea. Even had a save mid patrol that when I came back, still calm seas.

Canovaro 07-23-07 05:24 AM

In Das Boot the storm also lasted more than a month.
What you can do is sail to any (friendly or neutral) port. When you get close, the wheather always changes to calm winds.

Does the mere act of saving the game reset the counter? I was under the impression that it only happend if you loaded a saved game - or have I misunderstood it?

As for now I try to avoid exiting a patrol in crappy weather - but if the mere act of saving is enough I might have to deal with a lot of storms. (As for some reason the game has become somewhat unstable of late, and I tend to get a CTD a couple of times per night - hence frequent saves)

Kpt Lehmann poasted this not too long ago about weather. It looks like it is exiting the mission that does the reset so therefore when you save and reload.

2) The other reason for prolonged weather patterns can also be the player himself! Here's why: The weather pattern at any given moment is on a "timer" between points at which the engine checks for a break in the current weather type.... Players prolong this by exitting the mission... which resets the timer at zero for the current weather type...

3) Seasonal changes do occur in SH3 by region and season... or more accurately, the weather change probabilities change by region and season.

4) GWX v1.04 will not be changing these weather probabilities... nor has any previous version. However, we will be increasing the overall chance of changes in the weather to occur which will limit the player's game habit effects on the weather by about 20% I think.

5) If you are modding and/or tinkering with the weather entries, they are found in the opening lines of ALL THREE campaign files. (.SCR, .RND, and .LND) All entries need to be identically mirrored on each file to function correctly.

I still think it's in loading a save than saving or exiting...:hmm:

If you change these values (which I do and it works to limit the duration of the weather) and then use the SH3Weather mod, the values are reset by the mod. Note that SH3Weather only sets the weather at the start of a patrol in home port and not after a save or during the patrol.
Since the weather is favorable at the start of a patrol, the mod really has no use, unless you want to set the weather to terrible when you leave port. This may be the case later in the war when air attacks at the start of a patrol are almost continuous. (I am not sure this would help, however. Are air attacks reduced or eliminated if bad weather?)
What we really need is a mod or program that can get into the saved game file and reset the weather. Is this possible?
