coning tower emblem,a tutorial
How to get an emblem on your coning tower
If you would like to add an emblem and/or victories on your coning tower here is a small tutorial on how to do that. 1-- go to ubisoft/Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific/data/textures/tnormal/tex 2--copy the folowing files to a new map "coning towers" placed in,for instance "documents"(or another place you'll find them). NSS_BalaoTower_T01 NSS_GatoTower_T01 NSS_PclassTower_T01 NSS_SalmonSargoTower_T01 NSS_SClass_Tower_T01 NSS_TamborTower_T01 these are the black coning towers and NSS_BalaoTower_T02 NSS_GatoTower_T02 NSS_PclassTower_T02 NSS_SalmonSargoTower_T02 NSS_SClass_Tower_T02 NSS_TamborTower_T02 these are the blue-grey coning towers note:If you play using low-res textures you'll need to edit the files in the \TLowRes\tex directory instead of the \TNormal\tex directory. now you need a convertor in order to open these skins, change them into BMP,rework them and change back into DDS. I,personaly use the DxtBmp i got at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multime...s/DXTBmp.shtml After installing it open the NSS file(in your save map)you want to change with the converter and save in the same map as BMP. (for the folowing text i added some explanational pictures, showing the concerning part off the NSS- picture) With a paint programm you can add a picture onto the coning tower. How to add a picture and where to place it. first select a picture cut it out for better result. Numbers and text are better left out since on one side they would be mirrored. open the BMP with the coning tower. Paste the picture on the coning tower, for best result in the vertical mirrored U. Be sure it is faced RIGHT! that is the front of the tower. You can also add your victories using the templates below. Since you will proberly down more merchants than navy-ships i advice to place the merchant vics. at the left of your emblem and the navy kills to the right, but no further than the white line on the right in the pic. below. Happy with the result?Save as BMP in a sub-map in the map "coning towers" Open the DXTBmp converter and open the map "coning towers",go to the sub-map and open your new made drawing. Save as DDS close all used programms(since you are ready with them)and copy the DDS you just made into ubisoft/Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific/data/textures/tnormal/tex .You will be asked to replace the existing file, wich you safely can do since you still have a backup in your "coning towers"-map. Start SH4 and enjoy YOUR vessel! aditional pictures http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2333/ctplace0xu3.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8808/ctplace1bn0.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2141/ctplace2om6.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8703/ctplace3ra4.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6852/ctplace4xe5.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/4845/ctplace5ap9.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/4251/ctplace6se4.jpg this pic you can use to cut and paste victory-signs flags for:merchant and IJN side view for:merchant / DD's and gunboats / cruisers / carriers :know: <enjoy! |

Excellent! Thank you. I've been thinking a lot about some of the cool SH3 ones we used to have.
I have a feeling this will be moved to the mods forum soon. |

Picture Link doesn't work
I can't get the picture with the flags and side views to enlarge. It takes me to this place, asking me whether I want to uipload a picture. Is there a way to findan enlarged version in a good resolution?

For anyone who wants a free bitmap editor, here's the link:http://www.pabird.supanet.com/ With this program it needs to be a 24 bit bitmap if anyone didn't already know this.

I found a picture of the flags on google. No ship side views though.
Here's the link: http://www.japanorama.com/hinomaru.html They're a bit big, but they should work. |

For anyone using the pictures I provided with the bitmap editor I provided, It can be a bit confusing at first (it lacks a help file), but to make the picture smaller, you have to make sure it says stretch to fit, when you go to change picture size. Because you can't just stretch the image, you have to indicate height and width in pixels, the height should always be 70% of the width to make it look right (I reccomend something like 20 by 14 or 25 by 17.5) And for anyone who didn't already know this, If you do this procedure (not sure about other editing programs) you have to enable skin while in port or you CTD on the please wait screen.
